Many of you already know how much I love a loooong, beautiful quality HF wig ~ and how often I reach for them. 🧜‍♀️

I’ve had this stunner since she launched earlier this year, & I’ve been noting my hours wearing her 📝 ~ now totaling over 12 full 8-hour days of wear collectively. I thought this was the perfect time to show you how those Tru2Life® heat-friendly fibers are holding up.

Tru2Life fibers were actually the first HF fibers I worked with regularly when I started wearing faux hair. I had read ALL the warnings about longevity, so I was diligent about preventative care from the start. That 1st unit lasted me an incredibly long time & taught me that how we wear & care for HF fibers really can make a difference. Straight styles like this make maintenance easier, too.

A few things that work really well for me:

🦋 I protect the fibers from the start with a light coating of leave-in conditioner to help reduce friction.

🦋 After a wear, I gently warm the fibers with my hairdryer before combing from the ends upward. The warmth makes them more pliable, creating less tension while detangling.

🦋 Every few wears, I lightly spritz the ends with water & use controlled heat to smooth them. At the higher-friction nape, I’ll work a little farther up.

🦋 And one of my biggest things ~ reducing friction while wearing her. If it’s a circumstance where I can live without my hair flowing freely in all her luxurious glory (driving, hanging around the house, windy weather, etc), it’s going into a claw clip or loose braid.

🦋 Since I stretch the time between washes as long as reasonably possible, I do avoid unnecessary use of styling products.

Is HF fiber more maintenance than regular synthetic? Yes! But for me, the extra realistic look makes that effort worthwhile ~ especially when this is what Stay Out Late still looks like after all that wear & before wash 1️⃣.

There was a time when this one fit entirely in my arms.

Now he towers over me.

When E was born, I quickly realized how much he needed me. He wasn’t content being set down for pretty much any amount of time. I learned the easiest place for him was against my chest, so that’s where he spent much of his early life. I wore him everywhere.

Those years shaped me in more ways than one.

Without realizing it, I stopped giving much thought to my physical appearance. All of me went toward meeting the needs of others.

I believed every ounce of energy should go toward my family, and time on my appearance was somehow selfish.

Makeup almost disappeared.

Doing my hair happened on special occasions (once every 18 months or so if could find the time).

Getting dressed with intention was gone (I embraced the ‘homeless chic’ aesthetic 😅).

I convinced myself it didnt matter.

Years later, after my marriage went through a debilitatingly difficult season, I realized something.

Spending time on myself wasn’t taking anything away from my family.

It was giving something back.

In ‘21, I gave myself somewhat of a “mommy makeover” ~ not the nip/tuck, head-to-the-injector kind 🚙💉 but a DIY, low tox, money-in-the-bank version. I watched YouTube tutorials on makeup to accentuate my naturally low-contrast features (and undo some ’90s eyebrow crimes… 😑).

Then I discovered wigs.

Of everything I changed, that surprised me the most (ok, maybe gaining more eyebrow width w/makeup was a close second… but the WIGS omg).

They didn’t change who I was.

They helped me feel put together again when life was incredibly demanding of me.

I sometimes wish I could press rewind and enlighten the young mom I was on things that sailed completely over her head. ⛵️🫠

I’d tell her caring for your children and caring for yourself aren’t competing priorities.

One doesn’t diminish the other.

And Id likely hand her a really good wig while I was at it. 🤍

Maybe she would have looked in the mirror more often and remembered she mattered too.

Thanks for taking this walk down memory lane with me, inspired by the boy who made me a mom. 🤍

I can’t believe how many years I spent coloring my hair when there was a much easier option RIGHT in front of me. 🤯

As someone who values wellness & minimizing unnecessary exposures where I can, switching to wigs was 1 of the best beauty decisions I’ve ever made.

✨ Why I stopped coloring my hair:

💸 Less money spent on salon visits, touch-ups, products, & maintenance.

⏰ Less time spent getting ready. Most mornings I can literally put on a wig & be out the door in minutes.

💛 Healthier bio hair. Permanent hair color & bleach work by altering the hair structure, which weakens the hair shaft over time. My natural hair is in the best condition it’s ever been in because it’s no longer being repeatedly processed or exposed to harsh environmental factors..

🌞 Protection from the elements. My wigs shield my natural hair from sun, wind, friction, & environmental wear & tear.

🌿 Fewer unnecessary chemical treatments. We can’t eliminate all exposure in modern life, but reducing the ones that are within our control whenever possible reduces cumulative toxic load ~ resulting in a better quality of life!

💨 Modern wigs are not what they used to be. Today’s lightweight, breathable caps are designed for airflow & comfort. The old idea that simply wearing a wig causes hair loss is largely a myth. In most cases, hair loss concerns are related to underlying medical conditions (including a heavily burdened system typically related to dietary factors & aforementioned exposure to toxins in every day life e.g. personal care products, building materials, furniture, tap water, pharmaceuticals etc etc), traction, adhesives, or improper application… not the wig itself.

🎨 Unlimited color options. Blonde one day, brunette the next. No damage, no commitment, no growing it out.

💁‍♀️ Consistently good hair days. No humidity battles (w/ synthetics). No root touch-ups. No hoping my hair cooperates.

I genuinely wish I had started wearing them years sooner.

Just peeking into your feed again with 1 of my fave wigs in 1 of my fave fall blondes 🍂🤍

Shaded Wheat (GF14-22SS Wheat) provides that little bit of warmth I love for fall without going overly golden or yellow against my light spring leaning light summer complexion. It’s a soft, sandy blonde that feels like a seasonal shift from my usual lighter, cooler shades.

Comical fun fact: the other day when I took these pics / yesterday’s reel footage, I was really quite out of it and not particularly up for doing the do. I must say, throwing on this creamy, dimensional wig gave me that little boost I needed… and my husband actually happened to walk in while I was brushing it out. With wide “eyes for Christmas” 👀 as he often says (down under terminology), he commented, “that’s a nice one.” So it clearly passed the husband test 🤣

@glamvigorwig originally earned a place in my wig wardrobe because they are great affordable pieces for those times when I don’t want to put additional wear on one of my more expensive wigs.

At this price point, the knots on the lace front (lace runs from ear tab to ear tab which is temple to temple on me) are a little more visible than what you see on a higher price point wig. If you like to customize your hairline, you can certainly disguise them, but I personally leave mine alone. I almost always wear some face-framing pieces down when pulling the hair back, so it really hasn’t been an issue for me.

I was especially excited to see GlamVigor introduce some brighter, cooler blondes! Their original, slightly darker and warmer blondes naturally blend more softly into their darker roots, while this one gives you more contrast.. so if you love a more prominent root, this may be your perfect piece. The creamy blonde lengths with those touches of really subtle warmth are beautiful. 🙌🏼

Sometimes you just want to warm things up for fall, am I right?? 🫖🍂🤎

One of my favorite things about wigs is being able to play with seasonal color trends without actually having to change your hair color ~ and Shaded Wheat is such a pretty option when I want to take my usual blonde a little warmer.

This was actually one of the first shades I wore regularly when I started my alternative hair journey, so putting it on again feels a little nostalgic. 🥹🤍

These days I tend to grab lighter, more neutral-cool blondes ~ Shaded Glazed Sand and Shaded Biscuit, for example ~ but that would be why I appreciate having something like Shaded Wheat in my wig wardrobe. When I want a little more warmth ~ especially heading into fall ~ I can have it for the day and go right back to my usual looks tomorrow. 💯

And what I particularly like about Shaded Wheat is that “warmer” doesn’t mean overly yellow or orangey. This particular color has more of a soft, sandy blonde feel that gives me the warmth I’m looking for without taking me too gold. 🍂

I know how intimidating it can feel to actually walk out the door in a wig. 🤍

Unexpectedly having someone approach me about my appearance (or suddenly finding myself the subject of a conversation) has been known to send my heart rate through the roof, usually followed by bewildering brain fog and an instant hot flash. 😅 I’m much more comfortable observing the world around me than engaging in me-focused small talk especially when I haven’t had a chance to mentally prep for it. So, believe it or not, stepping out into the world wearing a wig was a HUGE step outside my comfort zone when I started in late 2023.

That’s a big part of why sharing my alternative hair journey means so much to me. If I can step outside that comfort zone and face the world in a wig, I hope it helps someone else feel like they can too.

It’s also why I’ve always made a point of showing wigs beyond the perfectly styled stock photo. I’ll wear a style running errands, traveling, out to dinner… or film it after I’ve already been wearing and playing with it for a while.

I also tend to make content both before and after modifications, because I distinctly remember how frustrating it was to watch a review, order the wig, then have it arrive looking different ~ with no idea how to achieve the look I thought I was getting.

There might be a little messiness happening. The lighting will change from room to room and everywhere I go out in the real world. There’s no stylist following me around fixing every hair between photos… and believe me, my boys and husband are pretty clueless when I ask, “How’s my wig looking?” 😂 But that’s kinda the point. I want you to see the wig for what it is.. and what it ends up looking like at the end of the day!

There really is so much more to a wig than the stock photo reveals.
