Huge congratulations to @ckingbibby . Our 6th Masters together, brother massive respect to you on the win.

People don’t see what goes on behind the scenes. Full-time doctor, 100-hour weeks, yet you still show up and get the work done no matter when or where. All those Zoom sessions from the hospital on barely any sleep that level of discipline is rare, and it’s why these victories are truly earned.

You push hard in every area of life, and it’s inspiring to watch. These titles don’t come easy, and we all know what went into this one.

Congratulations, brother. Well deserved. Let’s keep collecting belts. taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @ckingbibby

My travels as a physician have taken me to some interesting locations and none more interesting than the farming communities in Southern Minnesota. When the nurse was stunned to find out that I was unfamiliar with the process of the milk dropping into the teets of the milk cows, I was invited by @jhugoson to see the farm first hand! I learned to ride a horse, see the milk cow operation, and meet some interesting 2 and 4 legged creatures. I learned how to properly hold a chicken and noted that the land is first plowed at an angle. I was initially very confused on the assignment as the tractor lines were crooked. Even more humbling was being schooled by a 14 year old expert who calmly explained to me the lunar module like controls of the tractor. Thank you again Jamie for a great time!!! by @ckingbibby

Great day last Saturday kickboxing with Bellator fighter @ronnymarkes and boxing with my coach @benstanoff. Afterwards I watched fellow City Boxing teammates all win decisive matches with strong, technically sound fights. My coach Ben Stanoff has trained an entire team of champions! It’s amazing how patient and technical he is while developing each fighter uniquely. It shows in the ring! I’ve not been able to train as much Jiu Jitsu where I am working lately, but I am able to kick box with @marcel.fortuna and @ronnymarkes. I love getting back to Vegas once a month to train. I love the process of training, the smell of “work” in the gym. It’s like life. Life is a journey, a work in progress that is never finished, always room for improvement. I’ve also realized that I am a unique combination of strengths and foibles and like my boxing coach, God is patiently and uniquely developing with me. That has been a hard concept seeing the success of others and thinking I should be more like somebody else. Last weekend I won my Masters Amateur boxing debut at a large, National level tournament in Las Vegas and won a Title belt. It was really a result of daily grinding, learning and the excellent coaching of @benstanoff. I don’t believe in chest thumping after a win because it is more a product of preparation and coaching than a product of an athlete being “just all that”. Also, I don’t think it is good sportsmanship to chest beat in front of your beaten opponent. Three years ago I had never even put on a pair of boxing gloves and my success is a direct result of my very knowledgeable coach Ben Stanoff, a stud up and coming pro fighter himself. I am very happy now with winning a Gold medal in Judo, Jiu Jitsu, and now a belt in Boxing. I’m also grateful for @tourtraining for posting a very true film clip acknowledging that even the legendary BJJ master Rickson Gracie was scared. In all my competitions I have been scared to the point of nausea and weakness. That’s normal and is mitigated by hard work and preparation. I reminded myself that I was only facing a large opponent while the Ukrainians were facing extinction. My coach had me watch “300” the night before my fight and I was motivated by the Spartan mentality of fighting hard, fighting smart, and fighting fearlessly! I was most motivated when a messenger warns the Spartans that the arrows to kill the them would be so numerous that they would blot out the sun to which a Spartan responds….”Then we fight in the shade!” by @ckingbibby

Years ago I had the privilege of helping heal wounded Marines with the British in Afghanistan. Seeing the lives of young men daily ended too soon, it left me with a fresh perspective on life and eternity. Recently I had a very tearful elderly patient ask me if I would assist in her suicide to escape her pain and terminal condition. This elderly woman said that she had lived a full life, her kids were set, and she was ready to die. Her request was something I had never experienced in my years as a physician and it gave me pause. Her request was a shock and helped clarify to me my own finiteness and to realize with disappointment that I have not lived my best for God and those around me. Is there more for me to do, and do better? Of course. I am my own worst enemy. I see myself ensnared by own self again and again. We must embrace adversity, humbly acknowledge our weakness, comply to what is right. In the devotional “Streams in the Desert” by LB Cowman I read that to get patience, we encounter frustration. To learn comfort, we feel sorrow. To learn love, we experience heartache. Lord, I’m gonna need a lot of help, LOL. by @ckingbibby

This past weekend I became the World Jiu Jitsu champion in my age weight class in Las Vegas, Nevada. Huge 3 day event. The win was exhilarating and it was finally the release of so much anxiety and doubt after countless hours of hard work and preparation. After walking off the mats quietly to respect my last opponent, I found myself moments later just speechless and jumping up in the air screaming. While waiting for my turn to compete, I nervously kept looking for every excuse possible to leave the Las Vegas Convention Center. The wins were as much a mental contest within myself as they were a physical contest. With that being said, I feel obliged to give the most space in this post to thanking all the Coaches and training partners who helped me be the best I could be. Todd Fox @tourtraining started preparing me over a year ago with technique and mental preparation and utilizing immense patience with me and to him I am particularly grateful. Thank you Team Vaghi in St Louis led by Rodrigo Vaghi @rodrigo_vaghi and all my teammates. Marcel Fortuna for your solid, gentle guidance reviewing “beans and rice” BJJ. Marcelo Nunes @marcelonunesbjj at Zenith in Las Vegas and my very first Professor who birthed me into BJJ James Nival @jvnivalbjj @atosjiujitsulv. So many more that I can not name them all. Thank you to conditioning coach Paul Longworth @pr_paul_longworth and professional boxer Ben Stanoff for helping me with conditioning and learning to fuel and eat better as well as teaching me to box! Thank you Cesar Lazcano @thegoddamnjefe for the Judo that helped me stay balanced and get grips. Lastly, the week had a fun dose of attending the historical unification fight between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant, who trains at my boxing gym. All in all, a great week. It was all a huge blessing. taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @ckingbibby

Back in Vegas for a dental appointment and it just happened to be my birthday too! Had the day off to first get a nice workout shirt from @jvnivalbjj at Diamond Art Jiu jitsu after good rolls in the morning. In the afternoon I represented the team with my shirt and sparred the gym owner and former professional boxer Armin @cityathleticboxing . Finally, after more boxing and feeling like a champion I went to dinner with my boxing coach @benstanoff to celebrate. Since he gonna be a champion too, we did what champions do and that’s roll large in my Rover to the country club for dinner and even splurged to have desert!🤣🤷🏻‍♂️💥👊🏻🙌🏻 taken in Las Vegas, Nevada by @ckingbibby

Going to war with people u love and getting to choke each other, grind each other, and escape the choke of your opponent builds a special camaraderie that is incredibly special. Have really loved learning with these guys. Thank you Henry Akins @henryakinsbjj for the awesome rip stop GI and Todd Fox @protectionforhumans for showing me the road to recovery with cryotherapy. Good times. Unfortunately neither Craig nor I want to tap to each other out of shame so I’m sure we will be dead soon from a choke or a missing arm 😞🤣 taken in Team Vaghi Headquarters by @ckingbibby

IG posting revised

I had a fantastic time of training this week! I made the decision to get outside my BJJ comfort zone in 2021! My professor has some non-traditional knowledge and experiences that were developed working around the world in all kinds of environments. Our training path evolved into some very basic skills involving protecting people (myself included) and fighting bad guys as they fought for my weapon. We discussed how to choose holsters and what belts to buy and that the selection of equipment is driven by the specifics of the mission itself, not by what seems cool on the internet. We learned how to travel in motorcades and of course the usual techniques of how to drive when your driver becomes, shall we say, suddenly disabled by a bad guy. Most of all, after learning to fight to keep possession of my gun, I decided that an FBI canted holster is terrible and that a holster must never allow a finger on the trigger! I learned so much only to realize that I don’t know that much at all! All in all I learned that all these principles of protection “for and against humanity” are perfected by the repeated practice, practice, and more practice of these principles one small step at a time. I cant wait for some more training! by @ckingbibby
