@revista_anthropologica_pucp

On behalf of ANTHROPOLOGICA, a peer-reviewed Journal from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), we announce our latest Call for Papers: “Transformations in Peasant and Indigenous Collectivities.”

This dossier is edited by Dr. Alejandro Diez Hurtado and Dr. Maria Luisa Burneo De La Rocha (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú).

We invite the submission of academic articles that analyze transformation processes in specific communities over time. Furthermore, we seek papers that develop an anthropological analysis of the processes of formation, transformation, or continuity of indigenous and peasant collectives across diverse regions and countries in Latin America. Submitted manuscripts are expected to demonstrate both continuity and change, highlighting the logic of continuity as well as adaptation to new contexts and circumstances. In all cases, contributions are expected to go beyond synchronic analysis and delve into the logic of transformation or continuity processes, preferably over several decades. English, Spanish and Portuguese papers are welcome.

This issue will prioritize contributions related to the following themes:

-Dynamics of “communalization” and self-government

-Communal transformations in the face of extractive industries

-Historical trajectories of land ownership and state representation

-Impact of migration and climate change on rural continuity

-Transformation processes in specific communities over time

-Anthropological analysis of formation, transformation, or continuity processes among indigenous and peasant collectives in various regions and countries of Latin America

-Logic of continuity, changes, or adaptations to new contexts and circumstances by peasant and indigenous collectivities

Deadline: 30 January 2027
Publication date: July 2027

Submissions: anthropo@pucp.edu.pe.

Call for Proposals!

The Illinois Global Institute invites proposals for international research projects and collaborations. Funded by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences INSURE program, we welcome proposals that support both new and ongoing international research, with the aim of sustaining and strengthening the international agenda of research by LAS faculty.

The program is open to all LAS faculty regardless of the impacts of funding cuts to their research, but we particularly welcome proposals that support research that faces other funding constraints in areas such as Fulbright, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and initiatives supported by the IGI area and global studies centers that have faced the loss of Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center Funding.

Each grant will offer up to $5,000 in research support with the aim to keep LAS faculty’s international research on track and globally competitive.

Applications will be accepted until the October 18, 2026 deadline.

The grants are open to full-time LAS faculty, including tenure-stream faculty, teaching and research professors, and lecturers. They are open to faculty at all levels; preference will be given to early-career scholars.

Professors Francina Dominguez, Stephen Nesbitt, and Joseph Trujillo-Falcón Lead Climate Resilience Initiative in Ecuador

UIUC Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences Professors Francina Dominguez, Stephen Nesbitt, and Joseph Trujillo-Falcón are leading a new initiative with Ecuadorian partners in the Province of Guayas to strengthen preparedness for extreme rainfall, flooding, and other climate-related risks.

The interdisciplinary project brings together their expertise in hydrometeorology, extreme storms, and weather forecasting, alongside research in risk communication and community preparedness. The initiative will also engage postdoctoral researchers and graduate students from Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences and the Department of Communication, with support from CLACS.

Building on more than a decade of Illinois field research and collaborations in the region, the project aims to help communities and decision-makers in Ecuador better anticipate and prepare for high-impact weather.

Congratulations to the entire team on this important collaboration supporting climate preparedness and resilience in Ecuador! Headshots of Professors Francina Dominguez, Stephen Nesbitt, and Joseph Trujillo-Falcón by @clacsillinois
