Skostredet Spa, Bergen, Norway
Claesson Koivisto Rune Architects,
2023–2026

Located in the historical central district of Bergen, in partially escavated grounds – findings of medieval artefacts prolonged the construction period – under the recently opened Skostredet Hotel, which they also designed. The Spa is reached through the hotel, but is a separate service and a ‘hidden world’ in its own right.

The cavern-like preconditions inspired a layout of a succession of intimate rooms, including hot baths, cold-plunge, sauna (large enough for ‘aufguss’ ceremonies), steam bath, snow-room, treatments, gym and relax.

All areas and all details designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune.

A dual reference, for a composite and fascinating design. Aphaia, the marble furniture collection designed by the Claesson Koivisto Rune, draws inspiration on one hand from the grandeur of classical architecture, while on the other, it blends these references with an ode to nature and its organic forms. The collection includes coffee tables in various sizes, a dining table, and a ‘bar table’, all entirely made of marble. The coffee tables are designed to complement seating systems; they can be chosen individually or grouped into compositions in three different sizes, even with different types of marble. The sculptural table, on the other hand, takes centre stage in an entrance, a living area, a retail or hospitality space, whether indoors or outdoors. Finally, the ‘bar table’ suggests a scenic pedestal for placing vases, luxury objects, or sculptures: an elegant, precious complement for high-end residential and contract projects, in which the synthesis of classical and contemporary design is even more evident.
