Yesterday was a journey day. Took the ferry to Rossaveal, where there was supposed to be Uber service. This was not the case. But the good people of Ireland got us to Clifden in the Connemara region through a scenario you might find in a movie:
At the ferry station, out of an offer of goodwill, the woman working the counter arranged a ride for us by a bike company trailoring e-bikes to a bus station that would get us to Clifden. We then talked with a man at the stop who explained in detail the correct bus to take. After a two hour wait at the stop a small bus arrives. The driver ( picture a gregarious Somalian with a wonderful personality), asks where we are from and when we tell him Minneapolis he says hop in the rides on me. Spent the next hour and a half crossing the countryside picking up and dropping off the locals, all he knew by their first names. He also gave us a tour guide rendition of the sights along the way.
Arrived in Clifden in to a wonderful B&B and in time for a wonderful dinner at Marion’s!

Arrived by ferry to the Aran Island of Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands, (about 12 sq. miles). Surrounded by the North Atlantic the topography is rocky and windswept. Hiked up to Dun Aonghasa historic fortress this afternoon, as dramatic a setting as the Cliffs of Moher.
There are few cars here and no vehicle ferry comes to the island. Horse and buggies are the main taxis in the town area. Staying two nights, tomorrow will be a day of exploring.
Oh yes, and lots of Aran yarns for sale! taken in Inishmore by @clair.tricia
