ā¤ļøIn this honest, hope-filled conversation with parenting coach @clairashburn, we talk about co‑regulation, nervous system repair, and the real work of staying grounded when parenting feels hard.

From learning to notice ā€œI’m about to explodeā€ moments, to using simple mantras like ā€œMy feet are on the groundā€- this episode is a compassionate reminder that calm parenting isn’t inherited, it’s built, one practice at a time. ā¤ļø
šŸŽ§ EncourageMOMent podcast ep 40 ā€œHow Regulated Parents Raise Resilient Kidsā€ is live now wherever you listen.

Perfect for: moms in the thick of the little‑years, parents working to break cycles from their own upbringing, and anyone curious about how calm, grounded parenting is actually built, not magically inherited. ✨

Q-TIP: quit taking it personally! Don’t let your kids bad mood make you take their words personally. Try to listen for what’s behind their words. by @clairashburn

What self care task is your kid hating right now? šŸ’”Try putting them in charge or giving them more of the hands on job & see how that changes their cooperation! My 5 year old is needing to do a nasal spray multiple times a day & it became a fight. Then the doctor reminded me of the obvious - put him in charge. Let him do it! This has changed the game & he no longer is pushing back on them - for now 😜 by @clairashburn

Barefoot, outside in the sun & digging for bugs! I told my mom the other day that if outside time was a measurement of how ā€œgoodā€ a mom was, then I feel pretty good about my parenting 🤣(obviously that’s a joke) but we know there are tons of benefits of being outside. The unstructured kid-led play time is a GIFT to our children. No pressure to arrange an activity- just a sensory ā€œbinā€ of nature!!!
Add in some intentionality to your weekend to get outside. šŸŒž Even if you get some push back from your kids initially! by @clairashburn

Do you have a kid going through something hard right now? Enter the feelings tunnel. It is our privilege as parents to get to walk alongside our children as they travel through these tunnels. There is an end! Trust that the tunnel won’t be forever and hold your kids hand. Even carry them if you need to. But don’t yank their arm or hurry them along. Trust that your loving presence is what they need to get through it.šŸ’—šŸ’—šŸ’— by @clairashburn

Having my oldest daughter 9 years ago sparked a life long learning process about parenting. After countless podcasts, books, and discussions, I decided I wanted to formalize my interest. I’m about a month into the @jaiinstituteforparenting parenting coach certification program!

After the program, I’ll be a certified parenting coach and will provide parent coaching in addition to my lactation business.

I am a month into the training and the education provided has already been rich! I promise to share what I’m learning along the way.

The program is steeped in attachment research and a connection based approach. I can’t wait to complete the 7 month program and deepen my understanding of how parents can grow and connect with their children.

Also, I hope you enjoyed the few photos of me with my greatest teachers šŸ’— by @clairashburn

Habits I started in 2024 that I plan to carry into 2025…

1. Getting gas every Friday
This one is pretty self explanatory. It’s been such a gift to myself through the weekend as we drive to birthday parties & soccer games across town. I never have to worry about gas.

2. Charging my phone overnight in the bathroom
I started doing this for Lent and I never plan to look back. Not having my phone available for a quick glance in the middle of the night or a long nighttime scroll has been great. I’ve read more and feel better about my phone use.

3. Not drinking alcohol
I’ve never been a big drinker and never had a problem. And! Now that drinking isn’t a part of my life, I sleep better than ever and I have less anxiety. The book: ā€œQuit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcoholā€ Was influential in my decision and helped me learn the truth about alcohol & how it effects our bodies. @thisnakedmind is a great follow if you’re interested in seeing what life without alcohol can hold! It’s much more of a bonus than it is any sort of deprivation for me!

I plan to keep these habits in 2025 & add new ones! Id love to create better habits about tidying, making lunches the night before šŸ™„, and being less addicted to this dang app 🤣

Watching Lawson commit himself 110% to this performance was the greatest joy of the season for me so far. His enthusiasm & energy had me crying laughing during it. Hence the subpar video work. The whole thing was beyond adorable. So now I’m sharing the full length videos here 🤣

This year, Mary-Eller was @taylorswift (for the 2nd year in a row), Barrett was Christian McCaffrey on the Panthers, and Lawson was @leomessi Thanks mom & Jeff for handing out candy!! @katherinefabrizio

Thanks to @my.crafts.r.the.baum for the jersey help. The kids had a great time. This gets much easier each year the kids get older. Swipe for a behind the scenes of Taylor in her makeup chair šŸ˜‰ @miakfabrizio by @clairashburn

Off to 1st grade & 3rd grade for these kids! I can’t wait to hear their report after I pick them up. One more year of Lawson in preschool & then all 3 will be in elementary school. How?! Barrett is currently loving all things sports. Specially football and basketball. He also memorizes past previous game scores just for fun šŸ™ƒReading has come easily to him & so has the love of reading. Mary-Eller is really into Taylor Swift, cats, & babysitting. She has taken longer to really love reading. But now that she’s found graphic novels, she can’t be stopped. A few of her favs are: Smile, El Deafo, Roller Girl, and all of the Babysitters Club books. Both kids have loved to swim this summer and have enjoyed more independence. Lawson update to come when he starts preschool (my countdown is ON!! 8 days šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«). by @clairashburn

It seems very appropriate that our oldest is off to overnight camp for the first time on Father’s Day. It seems fitting for two reasons. 1, her dad @dj_scantron_ is a huge fan of overnight camp. He grew up going to camp each summer for weeks at a time. He’s always talked about his love of camp. All that he learned & how much fun it was. He said today that his favorite job ever was being a camp counselor. And today was Mary-Eller’s turn to try out an overnight camp!

2nd, parenting seems to be all about giving kids all you’ve got and then letting them go. These milestones always hit me with the bittersweet feeling of loving them so hard and wanting to let them go and grow up. Mary-Eller is such a cornerstone in our family. What will it be like this week to have her gone?

After a quick goodbye hug, Mary-Eller happily skipped off to go play while I walked to the car & cried as we drove away 🄲

Seth-thank you for encouraging our kids to be adventurous, kind, loving, and up for new things. They’ve learned these things from you! You live for your life at full speed and we’re so grateful for you. Happy Father’s Day šŸ’™ by @clairashburn
