Entering a new era ✨ I am back as a clinical research coordinator, but now in nephrology! As I am making the transition back into full time work on top of studying for boards 📓 & moving apartments, you could say that I have been busy. I am proud to share that I am now a GC! 🎓 Beyond grateful for my support system, my classmates for all the memories made, and all that I learned in the @cincygcgp 🧬

I am very excited to see what the next chapter holds for me! In the meantime, I will be studying for boards 🥳 by @claire.futuregc

HAPPY RARE DISEASE Week!!

Rare Disease Day is a global event held each year on the last day of February to raise awareness for those affected by rare diseases (300 million people worldwide).

Why zebras? Medical professionals are often taught to "think horses, not zebras" when thinking about cases, meaning they should consider the most common conditions first. However, rare diseases are the "zebras" — the unexpected, less likely diagnosis. Current students, what clinic are you in & prospective students what specialties are you most interested in?

I love that my program starts early in clinical experiences, because it really has allowed me to become comfortable in clinic which only benefits my counseling with patients!! Rainbow DNA background with a red text box that reads ROTATION UPDATE and text below of

Last semester I had a prenatal rotation, laboratory rotation, and saw the skeletal dysplasias and vascular malformations clinics

Currently, I am in an adult cancer rotation

So far, I've made progress in personalizing sessions for my patients, become faster at reading and applying NCCN guidelines, and learned how to efficiently create pedigrees on the computer instead of drawing them by hand. by @claire.futuregc

Manuscript publication here I come (I'll just need a few more months).

My thesis has and continues to be a learning experience & I am glad it is a part of my grad school program. It has challenging moments and requires patience, but like all good things -- it takes time. Light geeen background with a stats figure in the middle

Happy Genetic Counselors Awareness Day!

Genetic counselors are amazing and they do so much for increasing access to care and supporting patients. I am so inspired by the innovation, dedication, and compassion modeled by individuals in the profession.

This will be my last GC Awareness Day without CGC behind my name, and I cannot wait until I am practicing alongside my peers. I had the chance to attend the 2024 NSGC Conference as part of my program @cincygcgp! ⚜️
I could ramble on about how exciting it was to hear from the speakers 🎤 and meet so many of my colleagues for the first time in person ☺️, but I will keep it brief and say that I learned so much and am thankful. To end, my time at the conference reminded me how GCs cannot be put into a box and how the field is constantly evolving (it seems like GCs can do it all) 🧬 Slide 1 says "Leading Beyond the Horizon" with subtitle of "NSGC 24' Conference Recap". Going into Year 2
As I enter the second and final year of my program, I am so excited to see how much more I can learn! In one year, I went from observing cases to being able to do the full case and document it. I saw how GCs work with other providers and learned about the importance of communication between specialties. I’ve gained an understanding of what the workflow can look like as a GC in research, lab, and industry. I made progress in my thesis project and learned more about research design. I have also made more connections in the GC community. by @claire.futuregc
