It's Friday and that means a new Classical Music Indy stream! This stream is available through Thursday, May 21st - don't miss it! Classical Music Indy is proud to feature a local artist each month on streaming! The featured local artist for May is Claire Thai (pictured). Claire Thai is an internationally recognized harpist, appointed as principal harpist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra by music director Jun Märkl. Claire’s career as a soloist has garnered her numerous international accolades, including 1st place at both the Suoni d’Arpa competition in Italy and the International Portuguese Harp Competition, along with an Anne Adams and Lyon and Healy award. She also claimed 1st place at the American Harp Society National Competition. Deeply committed to expanding the harp repertoire, Claire is also a dedicated composer. In 2022, she was commissioned to write and perform a harp concerto with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra to be performed in conjunction with the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto. Tune into streaming this week for an interview (starting 12am, 8am, and 4pm EDT) with Claire about her time with the ISO, her compositional activities, and her involvement in the upcoming USA International Harp Competition. After the interview, stay tuned for some of Claire’s “wish list” works to perform with orchestra, including Maurice Ravel’s complete “Daphnis and Chloe,” coming up in the ISO’s 2026-27 season and contemporary harp works from Danielle Eva Schwob, Juan Pablo Contreras, Eric Salazar and others. Finally, enjoy more contemporary music written for various instruments by Lance Hulme, Wayne Shorter, Ian Stephens and more. Meet our Musicians 🎶 Claire Thai is an internationally recognized harpist, recently appointed as principal harpist of the ISO! Claire’s career as a soloist has garnered her numerous international accolades, including 1st place at the Suoni d’Arpa competition in Italy. Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, Claire began studying harp at age 5 and piano at age 4. Claire holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in harp performance from the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied under Elizabeth Hainen, principal harpist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. #INDYSYMPHONY by @claire_thai
