feelin so grateful to spend so much of my June at #wokesweeney ~ I remember, when I was in middle school, being soooo excited to show my parents the film of Sweeney Todd (mostly to see their reaction at such an absurd concept). I feel glad to have finally crossed paths with this piece (away from the film adaptation, no shade) in both pants, dresses, & mustaches!! I love ensemble work. I love my community. Thank you for the way you lift each other up❤️ stay tuned for @tiahwaga_community_players next season😉 grateful for all the opportunities to grow within and explore this art form.

I met some of my life long friends. & collaborators who inspire me to no end. directed plays & musicals, taught the best students around, and performed a bit as well (7 total plays, I feel so overjoyed, & always learning) ~ my favorite thing to do besides laugh with people I love. i can’t believe how special this year was and i really feel quite lucky. and quite grateful. ~~ by @clairegratto

The Humans by Stephen Karam

Grateful to have spent the past couple months in a beautiful two-story set for “The Humans”. This play has helped me throughout 2025. Watching the film of it this past March helped me come to terms with the fact that I was in a relationship that felt like falling into sudden quicksand. The film woke me up and helped me get out, a decision that has made every day feel like living for the first time. So naturally, a @kyleeann.thetga directed production of said story seemed like a dream project.

The character of Aimee intimidated me. She’s 34. A lawyer. Chronically ill. And just got dumped out of a 20+ year long relationship (a time frame I cannot fathom as a 23 year old with very little actual sense of how time passes). But bit by bit I noticed how similarly Aimee and I handled conflict— by trying to diffuse or avoid it at all costs. A mediation obsessed bottler.

Unlike Aimee, I often (over) apologize for taking up space in any capacity. A characteristic lovingly called out by this wonderful team. Today, I feel stronger and more patient than I ever have before. Something that the anxiety-ridden person I characterized myself as in years past could likely never imagine. But something that I’m very proud to consider a work in progress.

It seems simple, but spending so much time with this text has taught me so much about the subtleties of relationships. How so much can be conveyed nonverbally. An entire history in one look. The definition of subtext.

I perhaps sound like a real nerd but I’m coming to terms with that so don’t worry, I’m aware. I’ve been reading a lot of Uta Hagen lately so my brain has been very engaged and thrilled to keep finding new joy in each theatre project I have the pleasure of welcoming into my life. A real big nerd, really.

Grateful again to have @tiahwaga_community_players as my acting gym class. The most supportive community to feel so welcome within & I hope more folks get the opportunity to act for the love of the game. by @clairegratto

Ariel (The Tempest, 2025)
So grateful to return to @ithacashakespearecompany this summer. Thank you to @wildmagicmuppet for this opportunity and encouraging so much joy and improvisation throughout this process. And a massive thanks to this cast for their amazing collaborative minds (and voices)🩵

Not gonna lie being able to go outside — slap an absurd amount of aqua glitter on my face — and inhabit the world of a sassy fairy…is kind of the best evening routine 10/10 recommend💫🧚🏻‍♀️

Dainty June 🐄🤠

When I was 17 I worked for an auto parts manufacturing company. It was tedious work, very repetitive, but secretly gifted me one of the most fulfilling opportunities: listening to music on the clock. My eight hour shifts became eight hours to listen to whatever albums, podcasts, audiobooks that would hold my attention span while I did factory work. I especially dived into a listening profile of musical theatre. Whatever sounded interesting. I became entranced by several pieces that I would listen to on repeat, as if a part of my productivity routine: one featuring Patti LuPone, you know the one. I fell in love with it. Finally a Golden Age musical that didn’t shove the women onstage into the ingénue stereotype, it let them be loud, charismatic, and absolutely ambitious. I always knew I wanted to be in this show in some capacity, a dream show, if you will.

To have this show at the forefront of my life these past few months has been so special. To both myself now, and to the kid I used to be working in the factory. I am so grateful to have worked with this team at Ti-Ahwaga. It means so much to be welcomed into a community of talented, remarkable people. Truly couldn’t have a more lovely group to storytell (and be so goofy) with.

Listening to that score every night provided such an invigorating reminder that musical storytelling is a remarkable human invention. So, in conclusion, I do in fact love theatre. And I feel very grateful. 🤍💖🐮

autumn is full of open hearts for my community. so much gratitude to return to campus as a playwright selected for ic’s 2024 new play incubator. working with this team of artists was such a healing experience that reminded me why creating in this town is so lovely. as well as how much I love new plays— honored to be among the company of the first slide. additionally, the past few months have brought so many friends to the area. I am ABSO—LUTELY the friend who gets emotional mid hangout and starts telling everyone they love them — and what about it, ya know? I love my friends. I love being queer. I love theatre. I love Ithaca. That’s all. by @clairegratto
