As a small, independent clinic owner, your reputation is built on safety, transparency, and delivering real clinical results for your community. It is heartbreaking when the multi-billion-dollar manufacturers you trust to supply your medical-grade equipment fail to uphold those same values.
Three years ago, I invested over six figures into a flagship platform, induced by high-pressure trade show promises of a low-maintenance, high-durability "workhorse" with components engineered to last for 1,000,000 pulses.
The reality of operating under this corporate umbrella has been a completely different story:
• Premature Mechanical Failure: My system suffered chronic calibration issues within the first 90 days. Recently, the device experienced a catastrophic internal failure under low-usage conditions.
• Failed Specifications: The manufacturer’s own technician documented on an official work order that the device "does not meet published specifications." The internal log history was riddled with error codes, the internal Peltier cooling element read completely faulty, and the lamps failed catastrophically at just 170k and 314k pulses—a mere fraction of their promised lifespan.
• Hidden Operating Costs: Critical details regarding mandatory, annual maintenance and calibration requirements were entirely omitted during the sales and training process, buried deep on page 100 of a manual delivered weeks after my wire transfer was completed.
• Invoicing Irregularities: Following our transaction, my clinic was subjected to conflicting, shifting invoices and unexpected tax bills, with baseline asset numbers manipulated internally to meet sales quotas.
To make matters worse, after their machine failed, the corporate billing department demanded a predatory $3,000 diagnostic fee just to release the itemized repair specifications for their own manufacturing defects.
Small, independent med spas are the backbone of the aesthetics industry. We keep our overhead lean and work tirelessly to provide accessible, premium care to our local communities. We deserve to be treated with fairness and structural integrity by the global corporations we buy from—not left stranded with non-functioning by @clairesholden
