Claire Van Doren's resume includes fundraising, marathon training, community leadership, public speaking, and eight years of sneeze analytics.

Yes, really.

From age 22 to 30, Claire tracked every sneeze she sneezed in a spreadsheet, peaking in 2025 with 2,577 sneezes — an average of seven per day, for anyone keeping score (Claire definitely was).

Since returning to Columbia three years ago, Claire has become a familiar face across the city, serving with the Women's Network, EPIC, Downtown Rotary, and Heart of Missouri Girls on the Run, while also helping lead fundraising efforts and community partnerships that support local families through Love Columbia.

She's also a financial coach, a half-marathon finisher, a future marathoner, and a passionate advocate for bringing back one critical piece of community infrastructure: The indoor roller rink.

One of the highlights of this training block was becoming friends with Renee as we realized we were training for the same race. We connected through both being runners and content creators who see the power in sharing vulnerably, reducing stigma around mental health, and doing hard things. You’re an inspiration to me and to so many others, @dharmabum091077! Congrats on becoming a MARATHONER. 🏃🏼‍♀️

I have made the incredibly difficult decision not to run my marathon, scheduled for 10/17. I’ve been having pain in my left foot and as a result haven’t been running. I do my best to differentiate between pain (causes injury) and discomfort (causes growth). After months of training, anticipating, and excitedly talking about my first marathon? It’s uncomfortable to talk about it being over before it even started. I set a goal, trained for that goal, and will not be completing that goal. It’s vulnerable and awkward and disappointing. I’m having a tough time letting go of the taste of victory as I cross the finish line. Maybe it’s time to go for a swim. by @clairevando

16 miles. 16 weeks. One full-circle journey.

This week, I ran 16 miles to honor Love Columbia’s 16-week Extra Mile program. The program is dedicated to helping neighbors learn about budgeting and finances.

I was once a participant and then returned to teach and coach others through the same experience that helped shape me. And at the end of those “16 miles,” I was joined by the woman I coached and the woman who coached me.
