Still.Mine.
“The Unbearable Lightness of Being”
This work is not about stability, but about tension.
It stages the paradox Milan Kundera called “the unbearable lightness of being” — which is weight that glows, and solidity that is rendered fragile.
Each form seems heavy, and yet its glow counters the heaviness, it’s restless, yet never resolved, NOR IS IT ever finished. The stones lean into each other like congealed liquid, like unspoken confessions during a
metamorphic period, their weight held in impossible suspension. They are boulders of light—soft as breath, dense as eternity. To some they seem stacked by accident, but to me they are an anthem of resistance —
the refusal to resolve into order, the courage to stay fluid inside the solid; but never suggesting chaos. Everything worth knowing lives in contradiction—how weight becomes light, how silence grows louder
than words, how a body can ache for freedom and still crave the security of its anchor. This sculpture is my reflection, or maybe even my disguise:
gravity’s prisoner, but glowing from the inside with the memory of stars.
“The unbearable lightness of being”pressed into stone, asking us whether we carry our burdens, or whether they carry us.

Still.Mine.

“When the summer ends, and you go back to your life.”

I used to hear this line all the time: “We only have one summer in our lives. Every summer after that is just compared to it.”

Maybe the summer I was seventeen was that one for me.

This whole year has felt strangely vividly blurry. I don’t think I’ve ever felt the world this closely before. And this summer, I started writing again. Somehow, through words, it felt like I had found another world inside this one.

We give summer our feelings without holding anything back — the intense ones, the quiet ones, the reckless ones, the beautiful ones.

Summer gives us permission to feel everything about it. Things that, during the rest of the year, we might not allow ourselves to feel at all.

And yet, for years, I thought I hated summer.

Maybe what I hated was California summer. Or maybe, more truthfully, I hated where I was where I am.

This year, for the first time in so many years, I spent my summer somewhere else.

And suddenly, it all felt right.

Dayuanxiang Museum is less a museum and more a time vault.
Born from the ruins of a 160-year-old Qing-dynasty porcelain workshop, it now houses one of the most extensive collections of traditional Ba-Yu architectural elements in China. Carved doors, stone thresholds, window lattices—each piece once belonged to a lived-in home, carrying symbols of prosperity, protection, and lineage.
Walking through the collection feels like moving across centuries, where craftsmanship was a form of belief and architecture was memory made solid.

Tokyo: Lighting a light for Yourself in a Noisy World.

Many people say it’s fast, oppressive. But in Tokyo, for the first time, I felt a quiet kind of tenderness—something like warmth without spectacle.

It doesn’t welcome you loudly, doesn’t urge you to slow down. It simply leaves a light on for you, always.

A Silvered Reverie by Clair van der Swan
“Came into this city like a stranger stepping onto a stage for the first time, I always thought about the idea of fitting in, but never sure I would ever fit it, like the ink that dried before the dawn, try as I might to write myself into its pages, only to find the strange geometry of my own reflection among the sky, the hills and billion of lights. Bowie once said that Los Angeles is a prism that refracts you—splinters you into pieces until you find the shard that’s truly yours.
So this sculptural seat is my little piece of that prism. It’s not about what it would fit it, how the audience would precieve it, once I gave it its form it developed its own personality separate and apart from me. It’s a personal kind of relic — an antique, silver-leafed daydream where I’m neither lost nor found, just suspended in time.
A seat carved out of my own making. Like a verse from a song that never needed a chorus. Like the will of refusing to settle down for the comfort of strangers’ eyes.”
