Devotees of 𝓘𝓽𝓱𝔃𝓪𝓻𝓲, a spectral guardian of foresight, sought clarity in moments of high-stakes decision-making. Ithzari masks and sentinels were common during moments of crucial franchise deliberation: draft selections, trade negotiations, and long-term investments in team culture.

Ithzari relics were often crafted from game-used materials and given a solemn, contemplative visage connecting the metaphysical and material worlds while suggesting that wisdom, rather than impulse, was venerated in these rituals. The oversized eyes in this particular mask symbolize discernment, filtering impulsive choices, and an invitation for the inner light necessary to make prudent decisions.

Positioned within the broader context of sports governance, this artifact challenges modern assumptions about the infallibility of front offices, framing their decision-making as a ritualistic practice fraught with uncertainty and the ghosts of seasons past as much as statistics and advanced metrics.

Time Well Spent feat. Clancy Philbrick (@clancy_pantz) is now live.

We spend the day with Clancy Philbrick - a Philadelphia–based artist who upcycles sports equipment into mythic, deity-like sculptures. His work reimagines worn-out balls, bats, and fan gear as sacred objects from a world where sports culture and ancient ritual collide.

Collecting toenails and fingernails from passers-by in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia artist @clancy_pantz is working to build a model of the FIFA World Cup made entirely of toenails and fingernails. We met up with Clancy to discuss the socioeconomic message behind the piece, and the challenges he’s faced gathering hundreds of nails.

I wrote this a few months back after the Super Bowl. I guess I didn’t share it because there was a lot going on during that time and I’m always hesitant to self-promote when the world feels like it’s collapsing. That, and I suppose I’m less confident sharing words as opposed to visual art.

Anyways, the sports cycle has definitely moved on, but I think the ideas remain relevant as No Kings marches continue, The World Cup descends upon us, we all just paid taxes to fund our country’s insatiable thirst for violence and money, we still wait for a general strike, and it’s forever f*ck ICE.
