Embracing the stiffness of the MUSLIN fabric, we approached this look with the exact idea of painting on a canvas quite literally, creating a distorted trompé l’œil body, finishing with our TORONTO comfy socks and necklace.

LOOK 8: MUSEUM - RACHEL

‘unedited words from our primary womenswear designer herself’

“back in the march the prompt i was given for a piece entirely creatively made by me was the topic of “art” and “museums”

at first i wanted to approach it with the theme of sculptures n make a piece with canvas fabric painted with off white brushstrokes and build off of that, however “building off of it” was hard since sculptures are a pretty basic connection to museums, i wanted this piece to allude to something bigger.

typography is one of the biggest areas of my mixed media art, i knew i wanted one big title to be the focus as well as the details, things like traditional african beads used for letters, unique embroidery styles, fabric paint, symbolism in the colours chosen, etc.

i landed on “Im A Museum Of Everything Ive Loved” for two main reasons, 1: art has been my calling since i was a conscious being, i appreciate and practice every form of art there is. and ive dedicated my work to blending all of them together. and 2: it entirely encapsulates our creative directors history with soccer, having it once be his main passion in life he’s now blended it with his second love, fashion. museums hold pieces of our past, things we grieve. and what’s at the end of grief if not love?

shapes were also a large focus, using “v” or triangle shape in the silhouette allowed me to leave a trademark of mine that is my arrow shaped T’s and I’s which is also shown in the typography. throughout all my art projects i consistently use this unique shaped set of letters and it helps viewers easily recognize my pieces.”
