When people ask me, “Why Africa? Why do you keep coming back to Nigeria? Why do you want to practise law in Nigeria, despite its deep-rooted systemic challenges?”
It is complicated, but in summary, I will say the support network, the energy and the resilience are some of the reasons I continue to come back to Nigeria.
Africa also offers opportunities like no other continent, with almost 1.6 billion people and over 54 countries. Nigeria has left a significant mark on my childhood, and what greater honour can I have than to give back, help change the legal system and be alive to my responsibilities as a leader. So, help me God.

As a side note and to caption the video… over the weekend, a number of people in Nollywood (🇳🇬 Nigeria’s film industry) teamed up to dream and put Nigeria on the world map once again. They dared to dream and beat the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Audience Gathering Ever for a Film Screening.” 51,000+ people. This is no small feat and Well done to the team.
Now you know why Nigeria has my heart. ❤️

Dear friends,
I’m asking for your support in raising awareness about the growing crisis of school abductions and church attacks across Nigeria- incidents that are increasingly underreported but deeply alarming.

Just this week, Reuters confirmed that gunmen attacked a church in Kwara State, killing two people and kidnapping the pastor and several worshippers. This came only days after 25 girls were abducted from a boarding school in Kebbi State, as reported by BBC News. Only one girl managed to escape, and no group has claimed responsibility so far, though the pattern mirrors methods used by Boko Haram in the past.
Analysts and residents say these recurring attacks continue because perpetrators are rarely prosecuted, and systemic corruption weakens security responses while enabling armed groups. NPR has also highlighted how these failures contribute to the persistent insecurity.

According to Amnesty International, over 1,700 children have been abducted since 2014, with 17 mass school kidnappings occurring in the last six years. The world remembers the 2014 Chibok abduction of 276 girls with over 100 still unaccounted for and others forced into marriage under negotiated releases.

Please help shine a light on this crisis by sharing and keeping the conversation alive. Please pray for an end to the abductions and the protection of children across Nigeria #childrenabductionnigeria #schoolkillingsnigeria #bringbackourgirls #chibokgirlsstillunaccountedfor by @claradeecla

This past week has been especially difficult for many of us, particularly our children, who have encountered the viral videos of the tragic shooting of Charles Kirk- a “Christian” and U.S. political activist, who was known for debating university students on issues such as gun violence, abortion, the Black community, and other controversial matters. His sudden death has stirred a range of emotions and questions.

For parents, especially mothers, this moment calls for sensitivity and presence. Our children are not only processing what they have seen but also grappling with what it means for faith, politics, and the world they are growing up in. Even if your teenager or young adult has not mentioned it, it may be wise to gently open space for dialogue. These conversations, when anchored in love and honesty, can help guide them towards stronger values and wiser choices in life.

Here are a few reflections to consider as you walk alongside your children in this season:

1. Teach empathy as strength: Remind them that it is deeply human to feel sorrow for someone they admired, whether they express that grief quietly or openly. Equally, it is possible, and sometimes necessary, to empathise with those whose beliefs may be very different from our own. Compassion does not weaken convictions; it deepens our humanity.

2. Hold love at the centre: For Christians, love is not just an emotion but a compass. It helps us balance our values with the way we share our faith with others. When our children see love as the foundation, they learn that conviction and kindness are not opposites but partners. Please pray for Los Angeles. As the fires rage and thousands of homes are consumed by their scorching heat, I pray that, just as the enemy comes in like a flood, God will raise a standard against it. (Isaiah 59:19-20). May His protection, comfort, and restoration bring hope to the people of Los Angeles, and may the city find its smile again. by @claradeecla

I couldn’t resist sharing this inspiring video of a ‘great-grandmother,’ who is bravely protesting against bad governance and hunger in Nigeria, a country that holds a special place in my heart. Since the new administration took office last year, Nigeria has been grappling with hyperinflation, leaving many citizens unable to afford basic necessities. This widespread hardship has sparked nationwide protests, beginning on August 1, 2024.

While not everyone agrees with the protests, particularly in light of the tragic events during the #EndSARS movement in 2020, which resulted in numerous casualties, there’s a powerful lesson to learn from the great-grandmother in this video. Despite her frail appearance, she embodies strength and determination, channeling her energy into a cause she believes in, hoping to change the narrative for future generations.

Regardless of where you stand on the #HungerProtests and #EndBadGovernance movement in Nigeria, let’s not forget the courage of this great-grandmother. She has lived through multiple political administrations, both pre- and post-independence, and has chosen to play her part in shaping her country’s future. So, I ask you: what role are you playing in making your country better? #hungerprotests #endbadgovernance #nigeriapolitics

WHY EVERY REQUEST SHOULDNT BE GRANTED

Travel is a necessary activity to maintain a balanced mental state. For me, It is a time of reflection, introspection and solitude. My typical flight lasts at least 6 hours and provides ample time for reading , research and planning the next steps in my life’s journey. Travel acts as therapy for me, rejuvenates my mind and allows me to analyze and critique past activities. The ‘me’ time I get while reading or simply relaxing in my plane seat is invaluable. Travel doesn’t have to be expensive- it is simply time away from your regular environment to relax, sightsee, shop, meet friends or take a drive out of town
Travel=reflection =therapy= balanced mental state

This week I made my first intercontinental travel since May 2024. I am excited to meet up with Hubby and travel alone. Despite getting to the airport somewhat late due to work demands, I was still able to check in within the the ‘one hour before take off’ window. I prefer to travel light and typically will check in a bag or at most 2 bags with a carry-on for my laptop and essentials. My day has gone well and as planned and allowed me the opportunity to write. Pre-boarding time is when I observe the world around me go by, a time for reflection and introspection

During this trip, I witnessed and experienced two events that inspired the title of this write-up: "Why Every Request Shouldn't Be Granted."

The first event occurred as I boarded the plane. Noticing many young children, I reflected on my experiences as a young mother two decades ago. One little girl, likely 7 or 8 years old, ahead of her mother, asked a flight crew member for a hug. The man respectfully declined, and smiled at her. His response was appropriate, given the inappropriateness of a stranger hugging a young girl. I hope her mother observed this innocent gesture, helped her understand the situation, and used the opportunity to tell her why her request for a hug was not granted.

Happy to be on the plane, I reached for my carry-on when the …Read more via the link in bio or at Read more at: https://spidnetworking.com/2024/07/03/why-every-request-shouldnt-be-granted/ by @claradeecla

We kicked off the week with Mother’s Day celebration. We also got to mark my older sister’s birthday on the same day, Sunday, May 12. What immense joy it was to share this day with my sisters, mom and I, together in the same space. Dad also got to blow a candle since his birthday was only a few days earlier. What a rare privilege to do this and I am so grateful. To all mommies, mommies to be and all those that are fulfilling motherly roles in their spheres of influence, take your flowers 🌺. May your labor of love never be in vain. May you reap the fruit of your selfless labor in this lifetime 🙏🏿. Enjoy your week and keep being the best mom that you can be #mothersday #momsthebest #momsarethebest #selflesslove #hugamomtoday #takeyourflowers by @claradeecla
