I wrote an essay for the spring “Fire” issue of the @lareviewofbooks . It’s part close reading, part personal essay, part love letter to poetry’s “shape.” I think it speaks to what and why I write, and allows me to gush a little about some of my favorite artists and writers. I hope you’ll read it and find something in it for you. Thank you so much to my editors @chloe.watlington and @pxthompson . Could not wish for a better home for this essay ❤️‍🔥

(Oh and that’s Agnes Varda, @druzova_ ‘s dog 😍)

Update: You can now read this essay at the link in my bio 🌹

This one is really special for me ✨ Grateful to Luke Allan and @valathorodds for selecting lines from my poem for the gorgeous cover of the Summer 2025 issue. To be published in @oxford_poetry , and with this poem in particular, is a dream come true. The poem was a finalist for the 2024 Oxford Poetry Prize 🌹

I’m not very active on Instagram and rarely share things of a personal nature, but I just wanted to say I’m here slogging away at my book, trying not to be too hard on myself, and taking the wins when I can, of which this is a big one. Sending love to all in these continually baffling times 💙

p.s. Luke has a beautiful chapbook that just came out—Sweet Dreams, the Sea, published by @poetry_society . Highly recommend! by @claressinka

Here’s Bear Review contributor and 2022 Michelle- Boisseau-prize-winner Claressinka Anderson reading her poem “This Is Not the Mouth” at the Missouri Lit Mags - AWP Offsite Reading on Friday, February 9, at the Writer’s Place. Readers and editors, keep an eye open for her poems. She’s a phenomenal poet and person.

Thank you so much, Claressinka, for reading your stunning poems! Your work represents us so well!

And thanks to Maryfrancis Wagner and Jenny Molberg for organizing such a beautiful and well-attended event! And many thanks for including Bear Review. Our tenth year, this reading was definitely one of the decade’s highlights for our scrappy online journal. We hope to see you in Claressinka’s turf out in LA at (and offsite of) next year’s AWP.

Thanks as well to the editors and contributors at Boulevard, I-70 Review, Missouri Review, New Letters and Pleiades for making the night so memorable.

After he hiked them as a young man, the Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen valleys inspired Tolkien to write The Lord of the Rings. Their beauty is overwhelming. The waterfalls are stunning and abundant, but the glaciers are melting 💔 I’ve always been happiest when in the mountains. Lucian makes fun of how often I say “the pictures don’t do it justice.” But it’s true and he agrees. I think it’s why I stopped being a photographer. I could never capture what I felt or saw and transcribe it into a satisfactory image. by @claressinka
