Officially a graduate🫠 I am but a sappy sally at heart and in reflecting on my time at the Fashion Institute of Technology I can’t help but get emotional. Graduating for me goes beyond a diploma or symbolism of adulthood, as it is representative of the growth this program and moving to New York has given me. For those that have known me for a long time, you know that I have had… quite the transformation with regard to self acceptance and confidence in my individuality. It was only five years ago that I was cripplingly afraid of being myself, secretly doing makeup in my performative khakis behind a locked door, unable to visualize a future for myself as I wasn’t being myself. To think that in the past two years I have transformed into a person whom younger Clark would have admired and hardly recognized, and that I have created a life I am so proud to claim as my own—is something I couldn’t have done without this program.F.I.T’s Mantra, “unconventional minds” (which I have poked fun at in the past) is exactly what I posses and was previously ashamed of. To be in an environment that encourages individuality, creativity, and empowerment in your differences has allowed me to blossom into the person I am today. The opportunity to finally experience fulfillment in my studies, reinvigorate my passion for life through building a career in fashion, and waking up assured in the direction I’m going has been a dream. I am endlessly thankful for all of the support I’ve had from my peers, professors, and colleagues, and incredibly excited for this next chapter of my life (and to do so in some bitchy winged liner and heels 💖) by @clark.ericson
