Clark Gallery presents “Robert S. Neuman: Selected Works from 1950-1979.” This retrospective, part of the “Robert S. Neuman: Centennial Project”, chronicles Neuman’s most formative decades as an artist, as unabashedly bold color and the human experience became the cornerstones of his artistic practice.

Anchored by some of Neuman’s first serious explorations of abstraction, including Angry Dog (1950), the exhibition also includes works from his Pedazos del Mundo, Mirage, and Voyage series.

The Centennial Project, celebrating the artist’s prolific six-decade career of constant experimentation and fierce individuality, includes a series of exhibitions at eight venues, including Bowdoin Museum of Art in Brunswick, ME; Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA; Bates College Museum of Art in Lewiston, ME and others. taken in Lincoln, Massachusetts by @clark_gallery

We are proud to present the work of world-renowned artist Kwame Akoto, also known as Almighty God, and the founder of the studio Almighty God Art Works in Kumasi, Ghana. He has been featured in exhibits around the globe including venues in Ghana, Italy, Poland, France, Netherlands, Denmark and Portugal. In 2022, his works were the focus of a retrospective at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. His images often include hand-painted lettering and often address moral and cultural themes influenced by his conversion to Christianity. by @clark_gallery

“The Cell Solace: Love Woven in Captivity” Across US prisons, from the 1920s to the 1980s, a few men and women found an unlikely way to express what could not be spoken through intricate, handwoven masterpieces made from cigarette packs. The Cell Solace is more than art – it is proof of love, resilience, and the unbreakable human spirit.

“Pen Pal” from our current exhibit Cell Solace, created by an unknown artist inmate at Attica Correctional Facility, NY, 1976. Part of the Love Letters series, “Pen Pal” is woven from an extraordinary range of international postage stamps, forming a vivid collage of places, languages, and distant lives – assembled by hand within the confines of Attica. Each stamp, once a small token of passage and connection, becomes part of a larger act of reaching outward, transforming ordinary mail into a work of quiet beauty and remarkable patience. For many incarcerated individuals – especially those without family – correspondence offered a vital source of companionship and hope. Prison chaplains often helped facilitate pen pal relationships, connecting inmates with people around the world who sought fellowship through letters. Over time, fragments of this exchange accumulated, and through months and years of labor, this work took shape from mail dating from the 1960s through the 1970s. In the late 1970s, pieces of this nature were often viewed as contraband and were subject to confiscation by prison officials, making surviving works like “Pen Pal” exceptionally rare. by @clark_gallery

Clark Gallery is pleased to announce Rebecca Hutchinson's Exuberance - Within Two Decades exhibition. Hutchinson’s sculptural work is informed by observations of the natural world, drawing inspiration from what she sees as its resilience and resourcefulness. Ranging in scale from site-installation museum projects to gallery sculpture, the work is a profusion of color harmonies, floral textures and absorbing detail. Found embedded in her work are locally sourced materials—native and natural as well as industrial and domestic cast-offs. The work is attentive to the emerging concerns of the Anthropocene: sustainability as an ethos, hybridity as a strategy, and growth as a set of negotiations.
