Today, Clark County Fire Department personnel joined over 680,000 Nevadans in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill, the world’s largest earthquake preparedness exercise. Nevada is one of the most seismically active states in the U.S. At exactly 10:15 a.m., participants practiced the essential safety steps to prepare for how to protect themselves during an earthquake. Since most injuries occur from falling objects, breaking glass, or trips during evacuation, knowing what to do, and adapting to your situation, is vital.

Here’s some tips you can do in case of an earthquake:
🚒 Drop onto your hands and knees to protect yourself from being knocked down and reduce the risk of being hit by falling objects.
🚒 Cover your head and neck with one arm and hand. Crawl under a sturdy table or desk if nearby, or next to an interior wall, staying low and bending over to protect vital organs.
🚒 Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops, or hold onto your head and neck with both arms and hands if no shelter is available.

Stay safe, Clark County! Preparedness starts with practice. by @clarkcountyfd

At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a report of a building fire from two occupants who had self evacuated. Crews arrived to find a working fire in the end unit of a row of two story attached townhouses. Upon entry, they encountered dark smoke and a first floor fully involved in fire.

During a primary search on the second floor, firefighters located a deceased dog, and Animal Protective Services was notified. The fire was contained to the single unit and did not extend to adjacent homes. One occupant sustained burns to the hand and was transported to a local emergency room for treatment.

CCFD was assisted by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. In total, 7 engines, 2 trucks, 2 rescues, 2 battalion chiefs, 1 air resource unit, and 2 investigators responded, totaling 46 fire personnel. by @clarkcountyfd

On October 1, 2017, first responders rushed into chaos to protect and rescue as many lives as possible. Nine years later, that same devotion to our community drives everything we do.

Today, CCFD stood alongside @LVMPD and @resiliencyandjustice to honor the memory of those lost and support the families and survivors whose resilience inspires us daily.

We are deeply grateful to Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, LVMPD Sheriff Kevin McMahill, and Clark County Commissioner @commishnaft for their powerful remarks on unity, resilience, and remembrance.

Each year, we are honored to hear from a family member sharing the memory of a loved one. Today, Debby Allen delivered a heartwarming tribute to her son, U.S. Navy combat veteran Christopher Roybal, followed by a deeply moving performance of “Scars in Heaven” by her youngest son, Jayson.

We will forever honor the lives lost, remember the heroes who answered the call, and remain committed to protecting Southern Nevada. 🚒❤️ #VegasStrong #VegasStronger #1October taken in Clark County, Nevada by @clarkcountyfd

At approximately 2204hrs on September 28, the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) received reports that an individual fell over a bridge into a drainage tunnel near Twain Ave. and Eastern Ave. Upon arrival, firefighters observed an adult male standing in fast moving water. Crews attempted to deploy rope bags, but were unsuccessful due to the distance and speed of moving water between them and the man. CCFD's Technical Rescue Team (TRT) arrived on scene and established a high-point and rope system to lower a technician to secure the individual. Crews were able to raise him and the responder without further incident. The patient was assessed on scene and released. by @clarkcountyfd

Multiple calls reporting a residential fire came in earlier today for a neighborhood in East Las Vegas. Fire crews arrived and found an active fire in the garage of a single-story house and immediately deployed hand lines to extinguish it, successfully containing the blaze to the garage with no extension into the living areas. Firefighters conducted primary and secondary searches of the home, confirming all occupants were out safely and removing one dog from the interior.

Five engines, 1 truck company, 2 rescues, 2 battalion chiefs, and 1 air unit responded to this incident for a total of 31 personnel on scene. The scene remains active and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. by @clarkcountyfd

What a day at The Great American Kickoff! 🇺🇸🔥⚾️

Nearly 600 people came together for an afternoon filled with friendly competition, delicious food, an incredible car show, family fun and so many unforgettable moments!

We kicked things off with a beautiful tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and remembering the heroes and lives lost. ❤️🤍💙

A special thank-you to @creatingagivingculturelv for building the 9/11 remembrance wall and helping educate and honor the young generation who wasn’t alive to learn about that tragic day.

Congratulations to CCFD for bringing the heat and taking home the win in BOTH the kickball tournament and grill-off! 🏆🔥

A HUGE thank-you to LVMPD Office of Community Engagement, CCFD, VAREP, our community partners, food vendors, car show participants, volunteers and County staff who poured their time, energy and hearts into making this event possible. We are so grateful to everyone who braved the heat and wind, showed up and helped us create such a special day for our community!

Events like this remind us what can happen when we all come together as ONE community. Thank you for making The Great American Kickoff one to remember! 🇺🇸❤️
