ROAD CLOSURE: Christian Herald Rd

A tree and wires have fallen across Christian Herald Rd. blocking both directions of travel. The road will be closed from Mountainview Rd to Rt 9W. O&R has been notified, and responding. The closure is expected to last several hours.

Find alternate routes of travel while this closure is in effect. Updates will be posted as they become available.

The Clarkstown Police Department proudly announces the retirement of Detective Brian Callanan following more than 34 years of dedicated public service.

Detective Callanan began his career in 1992 with the New York City Police Department, starting in the 48th Precinct. Following his promotion to Detective, he served in several specialized units, including the Bronx Task Force, Street Crime Unit, Organized Crime Control Bureau, and the Drug Enforcement Task Force.

In 2006, Detective Callanan joined the Clarkstown Police Department and was promoted to Detective in 2014. Throughout his tenure, he held key operational and leadership roles, serving as a Field Training Officer, a member of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), and a member of the Clarkstown PBA Executive Board.

From 2019 through his retirement, Detective Callanan represented the Clarkstown Police Department as a Task Force Officer on the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he led vital counter terrorism and major crime investigations.

Supervisor Hoehmann, Chief Fay, Captain Quinn, Captain Cummings, and the entire town board are proud to welcome Officers Taylor, Hayes, and Cannata to the Clarkstown Police Department.

Each of our newest officers brings valuable prior law enforcement experience, along with a strong history of service to our country and our communities.

Police Officer Bryan Taylor previously served with the New York State Police. In addition to his law enforcement service, Officer Taylor proudly served on active duty in the United States Air Force and continues to serve in the Air National Guard.

Police Officer Kiernan Hayes also previously served with the New York State Police. Prior to his law enforcement career, Officer Hayes honorably served in the United States Coast Guard.

Police Officer William Cannata brings extensive experience from the New York City Police Department, where he has served since 2017.

Please join us in welcoming Officers Taylor, Hayes, and Cannata to the Clarkstown Police Department and wishing them continued success in this next chapter of their careers. by @clarkstownpd

On September 12, 2026, at approximately 11:05 a.m., members of the Clarkstown Police Department responded to Chase Bank, located at 61 Smith Street in Nanuet, NY , for a reported bank robbery.

Responding officers received a detailed description of the suspect and immediately began searching the surrounding area. Additional officers remained at the bank to interview witnesses and gather information about the robbery.

A witness reported that the suspect entered the bank at approximately 11:00 a.m. and approached a teller station. The suspect told the witness that he had a firearm and demanded money. The suspect then fled the bank on foot at approximately 11:01 a.m.

At approximately 11:20 a.m., a Clarkstown Police officer located a male matching the suspect’s description in the rear of 122 Rt. 59 and detained him. Additional officers responded to the area and searched the surrounding vicinity. K9 Jax assisted officers with the search.

The male was subsequently identified as James L. Gordon, 22, of Nanuet, NY . Gordon was taken into custody and charged with:
- Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Felony
- Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Class D Felony
- Menacing in the Third Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor

Gordon was arraigned in the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court, where bail was set at $50,000 cash or a $100,000 bond. Following his arraignment, Gordon was transported to the Rockland County Jail.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY – RT 59 & RT 304

NYS DOT is conducting an inspection of the Route 304 overpass at Rt. 59 in Nanuet following an earlier accident.

Motorists should expect traffic delays for approximately the next two hours while the inspection is underway.

The following lane closures will be in effect:

Rt. 59 Westbound: Left lane closed
Rt. 304 Northbound: Right lane closed

Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes and allow additional travel time while this work is being completed. by @clarkstownpd

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost and the countless lives forever changed by that day.
