post-rundgang blues is real. somewhere between holiday and getting back to work, the studios are turning into working spaces again - some radiate a near-meditative calm, others are pure chaos. exactly as they should be. we are thinking back at all the beautiful moments we shared during rundgang, the people who came by, the interesting conversations, the nerves, the fun, all of it. with the new semester ahead of us, new people are joining, and three are moving on: Hani Hape, Bailey Keogh, Pia Li Grau and Jolyon Jones - all the best goes out to our graduates, who are alumni now. one thing is certain: we’ll keep working on our project with Sachsenhausen Memorial, which we showed at rundgang. people stopped and stayed with it. You are invited! We invite you to join us for the ceremonial unveiling of the sculpture for Helene Weigel this Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The event will take place in the newly dedicated Helene-Weigel-Hof at the Berliner Ensemble. We look forward to celebrating this moment together with the Friends of the Berliner Ensemble and the public. To honor Helene Weigel on the occasion of her 125th birthday, the Friends of the Berliner Ensemble have commissioned a newly created work of art. The sculpture “Für Helene Weigel” has been conceived by the students of Monica Bonvicini class, Universität der Künste Berlin. Publicly accessible, in the midst of the theater’s everyday life, as a visible sign of remembrance and a lasting homage to her work and her defining significance for the theater. The work invites you to pause – between stage, architecture, and audience. The students approach Helene Weigel not as a historical figure, but as a central, still-relevant personality. As a woman who worked in an environment where female achievements were often overlooked, she stands for a defining form of strength. Her story reminds us of how many perspectives are missing from cultural narratives and how necessary it is to consciously expand them. Working in a group with different backgrounds and artistic approaches, the collective negotiation of a shared form was central to the process. The resulting sculpture is not the result of a single idea, but a tapestry of perspectives forming a new, shared language. The first draft was created as early as 2024. In the Helene-Weigel-Year 2025, a broad fundraising campaign under the title “A Sculpture for Helene Weigel” made its realization possible. Over 400 supporters have enabled the project with their donations. “What better way to honour Helene Weigel – a woman of many talents who founded the Berliner Ensemble and turned it into a major theatre – than to entrust this task to a group of young artists who, through working together, are finding their own artistic voice and collectively expressing their ideas in this sculpture?” — Monica Bonvicini More on the website. RUNDGANG 2026 STUDENT WORK R95A Janne Berg she/her @janneberg.studio @janne_brg My work combines mixed media painting, sculpture, installation, and digitally fabricated forms. My process usually starts with something instinctual: a material, a gesture, a memory. I’m interested in the dissonance between the primal wiring we’re all still running on and the artificial, hyper-constructed environments we’ve built around ourselves. That interest is inspired by a year living with a self-sufficient community in the Costa Rican jungle, where instinct took precedence over constructed order, and by training in Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, where that same instinct is drilled and channeled through structure. RUNDGANG 2026 STUDENT WORKS R95A Anissa Tavara (she/her) ANISSA TAVARA (b. 1992, Hamburg) holds degrees in Engineering and Fine Arts. She is currently enrolled in the MFA program at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg. LILY (1-3) Resin-printed holders carry lilies, supplied with water and fertilizer. The flowers enter a state of exaggerated bloom, saturating the space with an intensifying scent as pollen accumulates on the floor. Installed at the height of a laboratory workbench, the work stages floral reproduction as an artificial intervention between care and excess. RUNDGANG 2026 STUDENT WORKS R95A Paula Schierholt (she/her) @schierholt.paula In my artistic practice, the focus is on the photographic image and its influence on society’s visual memory. In addition to my own photography, I work extensively with found footage, often selecting cropped image details. These are intended to open up a broader space for interpretation and deliberately reflect the viewer’s gaze back upon themselves. The themes I explore in my work often draw from art history and the historical sciences. For this reason, archives play an important role in my artistic practice. In terms of materiality, I work with translucent and transparent materials such as acrylic glass. RUNDGANG 2026 STUDENT WORKS R95A valentin frisch (he/him) @valentinfrisch porn pillows part II A loose assembly of 115 printed cushions rests on the floor. Each features a digitally altered screenshot from gay pornographic films, linked by a recurring visual element: each performer bears a star-shaped tattoo. This motif serves as a filter criterion that formally and conceptually links the images. The work engages with pornographic visual culture and its repetitive structures. By focusing on a single ornamental detail, the original context is displaced and its pornographic function is disrupted through repetition, collection, and distance. Visual stimulation is transformed into aesthetic and symbolic analysis. The cushions - made of satin-finished polyester - appear soft and inviting. This comfort contrasts starkly with the rawness of the printed imagery. The work oscillates between accessibility and discomfort, articulating a simultaneous desire for proximity and distance, desire and control. The sculpture is conceived as an expanding atlas. RUNDGANG 2026 GRADUATE SHOW R91 Jolyon Jones (he/him) @jolyon_jones My practice focuses on the relationship between architecture and material structures. I translate functional, everyday elements into sculptural systems through repetition, fragmentation, and inversion. Rather than treating space as a passive container, I use its technical and logistical boundaries as a primary medium. Through replication and studied studio processes, I detach industrial elements from their utilitarian roles so they exist between infrastructure and spatial intervention, examining how physical changes to these forms alter our perception of stability and space. taken in Universität Der Künste by @class_bonvicini

RUNDGANG 2026 STUDENT WORK R95A Aaron Bircher (he/him) @aaronoah „Selling UdK“ Film (18:00) on Flatscreen, Color, Suit, Helmet Historic-building lovers, take note: The Berlin University of the Arts is being shut down as part of cost-cutting measures and put up for sale as a real estate property! In this film, we follow internet personality and contemporary-living enthusiast Felix, who introduces this castle-like university building near Berlin’s luxury shopping boulevard Ku’damm to potential buyers. Along the way, he encounters its former inhabitants—students and professors, as well as political representatives. Together, they look ahead to a promising future full of technological openness and extraordinary parking lots, where dusty old lecture halls give way to state-of-the-art spa landscapes and innovative living concepts. A true eye-catcher—for anyone who loves high ceilings! ______ This fictional documentary imagines a grotesque yet internally consistent extension of neoliberal logic under late capitalism and its effects on culture and education. Bodies for Control and Profit Winter Semester 2025/26 As part of the seminar Bodies for Control and Profit, the Bonvicini class is engaging with the history of forced prostitution in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the National Socialist dictatorship. In cooperation with the Friends’ Association and the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum, the seminar brings together historical research, remembrance practices, and artistic perspectives. For the opening session, we met with Barbara Gstaltmayr, and Tom Mustroph, both initiators and members of the Friends‘ Association, Dr. Astrid Ley, Director of the Sachsenhausen Memorial, and Mareike Otters, who works on the public programs and special exhibitions at the memorial. We then screened Das große Schweigen (1995) by Caroline von der Tann and Maren Niemeyer, followed by a conversation with the filmmakers. taken in Universität der Künste Berlin by @class_bonvicini
