The Porsche 959 was already one of the most advanced cars of the 1980s, and then Porsche made just 29 of these. This is the 959 Sport, a lighter and more aggressive version that dropped roughly 220 pounds, replaced the adaptive suspension with coilovers and bumped output from its 2.85-liter twin-turbo flat-six to 508 horsepower. This particular car is even more unusual: it’s one of just 11 finished in Grand Prix White, one of only two Sports known to have air conditioning, and was previously owned by Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld.

Doc Brown would be proud

At the end of “Back to the Future,” we see Doc Brown show up in the DeLorean with an urgent warning about Marty and Jennifer’s kids in the future. After Doc prepares the DeLorean for time travel, Marty tells him he should back up because there’s no space to get to 88 mph. As Doc flips down his sunglasses he says, “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” In November, @deloreanmotorcompany won’t need roads because it’s entering the @airspeederusa International Series, an electric flying car competition.

Some good ol’ boys headed eastbound and down

In last week’s edition of “Settle The Debate,” I asked you guys if you would rather build a hot rod pickup with an LS or Coyote engine, and a lot of you had really great opinions on that subject. This week I figured I’d start a debate that’s a little less practical and more fun. In “Smokey and the Bandit” and “The Dukes of Hazzard,” there is one car that’s needed to either transport something illegal or draw off the police so something can get delivered as fast as possible. So what would you choose if you were put in a similar situation? The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T (General Lee) or the 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (The Bandit)? Remember, gentlemen, we’re debating cars, not Sally Field vs. Catherine Bach.

These days, if you happen to see someone wearing a watch, there’s a good chance that it’s a digital smartwatch. With a few taps, (s)he can not only check the time but also his/her heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen level, and credit score (not really) — all while hands-free-driving on the highway. But back in the Roaring Twenties, watches and cars required much more engagement and effort. Swiss watchmaker @vacheronconstantin addressed that with the American 1921, a watch that made it easy to tell the time while driving.

The Koenigsegg Jesko is one of those cars where nearly every part of it feels over-engineered. Its 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 makes 1,280 horsepower on pump gas and up to 1,600 horsepower on E85, all sent through Koenigsegg’s in-house 9-speed Light Speed Transmission. Unlike a normal dual-clutch, the LST uses multiple clutches to jump almost instantly between any forward gears instead of shifting through them in sequence. The track-focused Jesko Attack can generate up to 1,400 kg of downforce, while the Jesko Absolut trades the giant wing for a much lower 0.278 drag coefficient and is built around outright top speed.

Truly special

Over the years, I have owned more than 30 air-cooled Porsche 911s, everything from a 1967 911S to an RS America. That list even includes a 1973 Carrera RS. I say this not to brag but to back up my next statement: Of all the air-cooled 911s I have owned, my personal favorite remains the 1978-1983 911SC. I have owned three different examples, all of which had the great traits than make up the essence of the 911.
