“360° Stereoscopic Landscape Painting” (VR) is now available on SideQuest for Meta Quest 2 VR headsets. For a detailed guide on how to install the application and experience the work on your VR headset, follow the link in the description or visit:

claudiabraileanu.com/360-stereoscopic-painting-vr

“360° Stereoscopic Landscape Painting” is an interactive landscape painting in which the image displayed on canvas is dependent on the viewer’s position. The work contemplates how digital technology can influence concepts associated with landscape painting by distorting representation patterns such as those related to “framing the view”. Capturing a specific view of a landscape can be a dynamic and interactive experience.

The experience draws on a video providing a glimpse into the painting’s creation process. A particular frame from the video was selected and transformed into an interactive 3D digital object. Using their virtual hands, the viewers are able to move fragments of canvas to explore the missing perspectives from the view that extends beyond the canvas’s boundary, while continuously changing the painting’s composition.

The work is a fragment of a larger project that includes a version for desktop web browser, an interactive 3D digital painting that can be accessed through desktop and mobile web browsers, and a painting installation that is part of an online group show in a real-time multiplayer environment. All pieces in the project share the same title.

'Waterfall (Offset Painting Patterns)', part of 'ELECTRIC WHISPER' curated by @changdina on @objktone

"Waterfall (Offset Painting Patterns)" takes its name after a formation from Polovragi cave, in Romania, called “Waterfall”. The work draws inspiration from the sound of dripping water echoing within the cave, speaking of the natural processes that gradually sculpted the cave’s structures while evoking a sense of timelessness.
The work contemplates how the natural landscape can be communicated through digital representations and the new perspectives these interpretations may offer, potentially altering our perception of it. It incorporates sound as a meaningful aspect of the portrayal.
Positioned in the center of the composition, a 3D scan of the ‘Waterfall’ is depicted simultaneously from two perspectives: a frontal view, and as a projection from the rear, a viewpoint detached from the limitations of the physical realm. The scans were assigned materials that made them react to their digital environment as well as to the processed sound of the dripping water recorded in the proximity of the ‘Waterfall’, as a reflection of the interplay among the elements of the natural world.
The work is part of “Offset Painting Patterns. Landscapes.”, a collection of paintings mixing 3D scans from nature with born-digital terrains, 3D modeled objects and materials created in a game engine. These landscape paintings are a materialization of an ongoing research on the influence of digital technologies on the patterns of perception and representation of the natural landscape. The series is part of “Obsolete Landscapes” body of work. by @claudiabraileanu

“Rewiring The Landscape” is a new web-based work created as my contribution to “Collective Digital Infrastructure,” part of “Politics of Technology” - an interdisciplinary dialogue between authors, artists, and technologists exploring specific themes through text and creative media - a project by @revistacutra . The piece adds to broader conversations with @xristinaxoxhior and @diana__manea on topics such as the ecological impact of digital technologies, Big Tech, blockchain technology, and the challenges of scaling local solutions.

Drawing from earlier works such as “Cables and Canvas” (2020–2021) and my ongoing body of work “Obsolete Landscapes”, “Rewiring The Landscape” transitions into a new series, “Sidenotes on Painting” that combines text and visual media to explore how digital technology shapes our experience of the world.

The work will soon be available online via @revistacutra and @spam_index, and will be showcased at @cndb.ro this fall as part of a digital art exhibition. by @claudiabraileanu

“Landscape 13 (Offset Painting Patterns)” integrates a painting of a born-digital terrain — an imagined landscape created entirely through digital processes. Its surface is layered with a texture sourced from a physical canvas. The painting is framed by fragmented 3D scans of trees and placed upon a scanned terrain. Though originating in the physical world, these elements have been decomposed and reassembled into new digital entities, retaining only traces of their material source.

The piece is part of “Offset Painting Patterns. Landscapes.”, a collection of works that merge 3D scans of natural elements with landscapes derived from physical-world elevation data, born-digital terrains, 3D-modeled objects, and materials created in a game engine and a 3D painting software. The series explores the influence of digital technologies on the patterns of perception and depiction of the natural landscape. “Offset Painting Patterns. Landscapes.” is part of the broader “Obsolete Landscapes” body of work.

Landscape Painting (Offset Painting Patterns), 2025
3D models, 3D scans, HD Video (2:15 min)

The installation stages the experience of a landscape painting that unfolds through its own iterative process. It is a composition of traces and side notes on landscape painting. The painting’s canvas, imprinted with a heightmap sourced from an arbitrary physical location, no longer maintains a direct connection to the tangible world - what remains is a transparent trace. The texture of a physical painting canvas, transposed into the digital realm, is layered on top of the surface.

Reaching beyond the frame, the painting incorporates two different 3D scans of the same plant - fragmented and edited. Alongside it, a video walkthrough of itself disrupts and extends it. Seeking to mirror the painting, the video expands into the virtual space with altered, fragmented versions of the 3D scans. The walkthrough also includes a brief glance at the sky from A Radiant Future exhibition environment.

"Landscape with Olive Tree (Offset Painting Patterns)", on view at Wintercircus Arena @wintercircusghent, part of “Drifting Landscapes” curated by Diane Drubay @dianedrubay

“Drifting Landscapes explores post-natural futures, or how the notion of landscape is reinterpreted in a time of ecological fragility and techno-accelerationism. In contemporary digital art, the landscape is an active, contested territory rather than a passive setting for human narratives or a mirror of the artist's inner world, as it was in the Romantic era. Through the use of digital tools and speculative technologies, artists in this exhibition deconstruct and reimagine landscapes to offer a backdrop figure challenging the Anthropocene and the Technoscene.”

Landscape with River, 2025
3D models, 3D scans, HD Video (20 sec), sound

Landscape with River has a physical anchor in Putna river, a natural border of Rächitosu village in Vrancea, Romania - a place of personal memories and a landmark for the locals. The river, once a natural border and a setting of shared memory, is undergoing a process of transformation - both physically and symbolically - as its place in the collective memory of the community gradually changes.

For decades, the area has been familiar with prolonged summer droughts, when the river dries up. However, in recent years, due to a combination of human-induced and natural factors, the river has become almost perpetually dry or reduced to a small stream. The cracks in the riverbed, formed by desiccation, emerge as traces of change and absence - markers not only of environmental shifts but also of transformations in memory, identity, tradition, and community life. The river’s role as a reference for belonging and boundaries, as well as an anchoring presence in the landscape and in the local cultural and social configuration, is diminishing.

The images, 3D scans, and video included in the work are part of a three-year exploration of the riverbank’s evolution, collecting fragments and details of its transformation, while witnessing the gradual dissolution of an order that once seemed persistent. The aim of this exploration is not to capture the river itself or document its changes, but rather to convey the impossibility of encountering it as it once was, highlighting the indissoluble relationship between landscape, perception, memory, and loss.

A RADIANT FUTURE brings together eight internationally acclaimed artists who envision a new promise for tomorrow. Their works are featured within a speculative 3D model of Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania-the site of the worst commercial nuclear accident in U.S. history (1979). taken in EPOCH by @claudiabraileanu
