This fourth work from the “Family and Friends” series is entitled “Padre Pio”. PP was an Italian priest, and mystic said to have supernatural powers, mainly the gift of healing. He’s got thousands of followers in southern Italy. His effigy is everywhere in Puglia, private homes, shops, and cafes. I once wanted to believe that miracles could happen when my dearest friend got sick. Ça va sans dire, I was wrong. 2nd piece, unwrapped, from the “Family and Friends” series titled "You are here", where I placed dozens of miniature portraits, taken with an old Polaroid camera, of friends, acquaintances, and strangers over an image of an empty chair. Inspired by Javier Marías' novel “Negra Espalda del Tiempo” (Dark Back of Time) - and here my borrowing of great literature emerges-I wanted to represent the inability to grasp the present and the relentless flowing of time. ----

Here’s the first unpacked work. This piece is part of the “Family and Friends” series. The friend who sat for the photo shoot, by taking off his shirt, appeared to me to be the perfect interpreter for what I was trying to portray.
The problematic relationship that the western world has with food is undoubtedly a complex topic that I have also experienced, in the past, in person, so I tried to convey this complexity using originally sourced images from 1960/70, a period of little awareness around eating disorders. Junk food ads are cut out, covering in a cadenced fashion the image below.
