I got to swing down to Bowie State for the Center for Engagement Environmental Justice and Health 12th Environmental Justice and Health Disparities Symposium. TONS of awesome groups at the conference

The day I went down was also the day The People's Hearing happened, an event where people could speak easy and speak free to a panel of experts and voice their opinion. Of course there was a diverse group of people who spoke up strong, for diversity if the spice of life!

It reminded me I gotta get more active and also encourage anyone who has time, energy, and empathy and compassion for your fellow humans or planet to do the same, whichever cause you champion! I know I gotta do more....

In one of the more recent issues of bad news for Maryland caused by Trump....

In 2009 @barackobama signed Executive Order 13508 which basically told the EPA to oversee an operation along with the 6 states in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed (WV, DE, NY, MD, PA, and VA) to clean up the Bay.

Note in the article by @wbaltv11 they interviewed a fisherman who noted how important the Bay is; fisherman sometimes are more conservative, meaning the health of the Bay is a non-partisan issue.

What Obama's EO led to was the establishment of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) thresholds for nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediments that were allowed to run off into the Bay's waters. These 3 were targeted because excesses of them causes algae blooms which use up precious dissolved oxygen in the water which organisms use to breathe. There were also goals set up (I forget how much and for what years exactly) for lowering the amount of these pollutants, with strategies such as planting cover crops on farm fields as a strategy. I covered this for a paper for a class at UBalt when I was there.

All the effort and progress that was made on President Obama's EO has now been overwritten by an EO Trump signed within the past few days.

Since the feds are doing an abhorrent job at protecting our environment right now (along with many other aspects of our society) we need more grassroots and ground-up efforts to try and combat this and other such moves. We need efforts by us and our local elected officials to do whatever we can to come up with a replacement for EO 13508

Yesterday (September 15th) was Roberto Clemente Day across MLB, and I looked up his stats just for kicks, and holy crap he is basically as well rounded overall as Cal Ripken Jr. if not more so.

Cal was a bit more of a slugger, whereas Clemente was more if a pure hitter, with Ripken being a good defender but Clemente a legendary one (2 gold gloves for Cal, 12 for Roberto). It cut off at the bottom that Clemente had 4 batting titles and 1 World Series MVP, whereas Cal won 8 silver sluggers. Also, Clemente was on 2 World Series winning teams whereas Cal was on one, but Cal has 2 MVPs to Clemente's one.

Enjoy how great they both were, and tag @mlb and tell them to retire Clemente's number 21...

This is not a serious EPA. I mean, they are serious about making Trump money, but they arent serious about protecting our environment and quality of life.

As much as people hate the word regulations, they and things like setting up the EPA in the early 70s were how we curbed a bunch of environmental problems because big businesses and industries sure weren't doing it themselves....

I played little league baseball at Hamilton for 10 years. An amazing run, and though I wasnt as serious about being good as some it was incredible fun. I pitched a lot though I was more of a "thrower". I can recall a lot of details about the fields, the teammates I had, and friends I made.

One of the awesome people there was coach Mike Nuth. I played for his team (the dark blue team) 3 or 4 years in the senior league (ages 14 to 18). He taught us how to get better at the game but was chill enough too, a good fit for Hamilton. I played alongside his son John for those years and his daughter Amanda graduated Poly the same year0 (Hey 08!). He passed away August 1st. We lost a real one and he will be remembered fondly. RIP Coach Mike.

There have been hundreds of thousands of people displaced by wildfires this summer in Europe. Its awful. And the pattern of increasing wildfires and changing weather is increasing over time.

If Im not mistaken it does technically take people who study climate in depth to say that climate change caused the conditions that made the fires or other natural disasters as bad as they were; such people have now said that about multiple natural disasters over the last decade or so, to my knowledge.

Started the hydroponic system again hoping to get some cherry tomatoes. It'll be closer to a jungle in there in 6 weeks if all goes right. #hydroponics

Felt like breaking out the Crush City shirt today because Chris Davis is now an Orioles Hall of Famer. Well deserved; he was a monster in his prime, could've hit the Warehouse with his raw strength, and put on a show in 2013 with a team record 53 homers. Also had an amazing glove at 1st base too... #LetsGoOs #crushcity

Edit: The shirt was a giveaway from the O's game on May 29th, 2013. The hilarious thing about this game was that Davis hit 2 homers (of course he did) but Ryan Zimmerman hit 3 homers, yet the O's won 9-6. I had to double check the exact date but there was a power surge for sure ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️ taken in Oriole Park At Camden Yards by @clearlyjohn8
