The Toyota MR-S can be considered as one of the most iconic 1990-2000s JDM cars to date. It even appeared in Initial D Stage 5 in white.

This one however is in a recently resprayed STRIKING red. So striking it caught my eye almost immediately at a Skudai car event. Thought I should give it a chance so here we are.

The owner has kept most of it original, with the interior and engine mostly untouched. In excellent condition too.

The only exceptions would be the deleted rear exhaust components and a new-ish hard top.

Seems like nothing much is needed to make this car an enjoyable one. Light, RR layout, manual. All that one needs.

The owner plans to retain it in its current form for the near future.

It’s not often we see nicely done up cars get all dirty and grimey.

On a random Wednesday last month, we went on a somewhat impromptu morning drive up to Simpang Renggam. It’s one of the more unknown small towns up north from JB. Thanks to a recommendation from a local, we stopped by at one of the oldest coffee shops within the area. Apparently, it was quite a huge thing on Facebook.

Situated close to a pineapple plantation (which we totally forgot to check out), it offers some of the best breakfast kopi and rotis we’ve ever had. The internal facade still retains switches and posters from the 80s-90s. Very unique.

A long chat with the owner later, we drove spiritedly back down to JB before ending the trip.

This here is every Malaysian street racer boy’s wet dream at some point in time.

Large turbos, 4G63T, banana racing manifolds.

Joined wira-evo bodywork.

Loud, dramatic, havoc-wreaking swooshing turbo sounds.

This car has all of them. In 2026.

Tuned for RON95 fuel, this Wiralution serves as Johnson’s daily driver. He now drives it more than his JCW.

Well yeah, this car is about as old as Singapore 🇸🇬

This is Adrian’s 1966 Riley Elf. Also known as a more atas variant of the 1960s Mini Cooper.

Within the car, the interior boasts a vibrant darkwood dashboard, together with red reupholstered seats and door cards. Not forgetting the leather wrapped steering wheel of course. Truly luxurious. At the time.

Given its age, the Riley Elf does have its fair share of rough edges. When it rains heavy, tissue becomes your best friend. Above your head, the headliner foam depresses along with every touch. However, on the outside, still looks considerably new.

Drive? Pretty much behaves like most classics out there. Brakes are almost non-existent compared to modern cars, turn-in is passable, power is just enough to get it moving. Less is more, right?

By the time you read this, the Riley Elf would have already been sold to a new uncle owner. Let’s hope this car will continue its life for many years to come.

Galleon’s 2020 Honda Civic Type R.

One of those cars I’ve seen around various places in the past few years. Yet I never really paid special attention to it the few times it appeared. Until recently.

Since the start of his ownership in 2021, Galleon dedicated a whole lot of effort into exploring the FK8 platform and optimising it to his own needs. The result after half a decade? A no-expense, ‘function over form’ philosophy of a car.

Only the most necessary things remain.

For instance, the stock wing was chosen over any larger aftermarket ones to fit Galleon’s preferred driving style and handling - more oversteer! Pretty uncommon considering everyone loves their Voltex wings.

The CF bonnet offered almost no weight reduction advantage, since the stock one was already aluminum. Yet it was chosen to help with further engine bay cooling and airflow.

Last but not least, an enhanced fuelling system was added to primarily help with further reduction of IATs. The added side benefit of it would be.. you got it, more power!

Galleon aims to break the 2:30 barrier at SIC next month. Considering all the effort he has put in so far, it shouldn’t be a problem at all!

Car so clean we can let the clean set do the talking.

Of course not.

Since the last shoot, the owner replaced the old paint bubbling continental-style rims with a fresh set of Advan GTs. Totally approve.

Tastefully optioned gunmetal-esque spokes and chrome lips add to the dynamic definition of the car, especially on the bottom end.

The shiny gloss finish makes the car appear more premium and upscale.

With the open spoke design, the brakes get to breathe, and the BBKs get more screen time.

Wrapped with the Bridgestone RE71RS, the wheel and tyre package fits so well. Almost flush to the side fenders.

It’s cars like this 118i that slip under your radar most of the time. Until you catch it.

The Japanese Malaysian Mini returns, this time with a very significant exterior makeover.

First notable thing you will notice right off the bat will be its bright new colour. No, that’s not a respray nor a generic vinyl wrap. It’s a coloured PPF, in Porsche’s Dolphin Grey. While some might argue that it looks less classy, the colour in actuality brings out more definition in the Mini’s body shape.

Second thing will be the Mugen-inspired wheels, straight from the north north.

Last but not least, the humongous add-on spoiler on the back. The larger new piece adheres directly onto the stock JCW rear spoiler, making it look seamless yet modified at the same time. Oh, it also does a good job at making you think the car is going to take off.

Cosmetics aside, one upgrade you might have missed would be the bright red intercooler placed behind the bottom front grille. Hard to spot. It’s there to help with further cooling.

Other than that, same old. Brembos remain, and so do the red accents. Much more aggressive outlook but what’s not to like?

The W212 E-Class. Remember seeing it on my neighbour’s doorstep newspaper as a full page ad, back in elementary school. Still remember it vividly. Long majestic body. Split headlights. Large front grille. Very executive looking car.

Many years later, finally got to see one up close.

This particular unit was specced in the UK and brought into Singapore, as you can probably (not) tell from the rear windshield sticker. The interior was solid, just like any Mercedes. The staggered setup was solid too, with NPS running 275 and 245 on the rear and front respectively. Wow. Rich.
