It’s been a while since I began working with abstract visuals that resist clear explanation.
I hope this ongoing project eventually finds its place.

We’re thrilled to announce our pop-up exhibition at Mana Contemporary Studio 447 on October 17, as part of Mana Contemporary’s Open Studio Day!

Chapter I: A Known New Beginning
Initiated by Creative Director Rongzhang Cao
Curated by Kim, Jung Soo

How does a new material change in the hands of an artist?

Newness can begin by seeing what has been beside us all along from a different perspective. At the heart of this exhibition is a material that draws on structural color, a phenomenon found in nature, where color emerges through the interaction of light and microscopic structures rather than conventional pigments.

The first chapter of an exhibition series brings together five artists working across printmaking, painting, ceramics, and installation. Through different surfaces, forms, and spaces, they explore how one material can become many expressions. Each experiment offers a new discovery and a new way of using something known.

Participating Artists

Christina Bohyun Lee @c.bleee
Hannah Huike Zhou @pastellimezee
Leonardo Gabriel Do Amaral @leomaybeleo

Produced by OH Art Foundation, this special group exhibition curates visual stories of community members who’ve participated in OH Art Foundation’s APAFA community-based workshops centered on memory, grief, healing, and transformation.

The exhibition brings together documentation and artworks created through Community Workshop 1- Luminous Remains and Community Workshop 2- Alchemy of Memory, where participants were invited to engage deeply with personal histories—honoring what has been lost, and releasing what no longer serves them. Through photo transfers, writing, mixed-media practices, and acts of collective ritual, participants transformed intimate experiences into shared visual and material forms.

Perception does not arrive fully formed. It emerges in motion, before recognition, before interpretation, before meaning stabilizes. Before It Settles: What Passes, What Appears brings together two artists who attend to this unstable threshold, where experience is still forming and the visible remains provisional….

A random resident from the old building I used to live in once came up to me and said,
“You seem to be living a very interesting life. You should write a book about yourself.”
And I think I kinda do.

Right before the New Year, I moved to a new place, but the gas was shut off for a week.
Well, I decided to create a memory. Something to remember my old place by.

It was interesting cause I felt I have free will to control my sleep schedule and to do whatever I want.

Happy New Year Everyone

Love, Kim :-) taken in Chicago Downtown by @clearwater__00

For three months in 2025,
I participated in the Bridge Program at Hyde Park Art Center as an artist.
I met so many incredibly gifted artists, and I’m truly grateful to have been part of this community.

Terry was an inspiring instructor who guided us with such depth and care.
Thank you so much :-)
I won’t forget this experience and hope to see you all again. taken in Hyde Park Art Center by @clearwater__00

It’s been a year and a half after I was in Reykjavík, Iceland.
I’ve held those memories close because that time felt so special, something I carried as a core memory quietly on my own.

Most of the time I was in trip with friends, and even though I wasn’t in the best condition then, they took such good care of me. I still feel deeply grateful for them. (Thank you, guys :-)

Iceland feels alive.
When I encountered that landscape, it felt like it was just me and the environment, resonating together as if I became part of the land for a moment.

I’m so grateful for the time I spent there, and I hope someday I can return to become part of that environment again.

Little Traveler has been on my mind for a few weeks. This work is inspired by the glacial erratics found in the state of Maine—massive rocks that were relocated by glaciers from distant parts of the world. As an international artist who has relocated many times myself, these enormous stones standing in the middle of nowhere deeply resonate with me. I wanted to portray one of these rocks as a “little traveler.” This piece functions as a sound instrument when placed in water—especially in the sea—where the movement of the waves rolls small ceramic components inside the hollow, 3D-scanned form of the glacial erratic.

Here’s some of my process I’d like to share. taken in Maine , USA by @clearwater__00
