PoeTea was an incredible experience that I am going to carry with me for a long time. From being invited to perform (this was my first time being featured in a showcase) to the actual performance, the process was liberating. I was able to process and release some deep feelings from this year. I am so grateful for Kemmie FaithPQuoted Douglas for seeing me and trusting me to be a part of a fertile movement.

Shoutout to the brilliant eye and direction of @septembershotme and @nalykeyephotography for capturing this beautiful amber moment.

I made it.

I made it to 34 years old!!! 33 crucified me, but I can feel myself rising again. I began my day with a voice note of my Paw Paw singing happy birthday to me. Somewhere in the downpour of slob, I rediscovered who I am in the drool…this leaking source of raw energy making claims for the future.

We were very very close. I don’t know if I’ll ever find strength in knowing you won’t call and I can’t call. I’m not sure how I’ll process hurt, pain, and anger. You could heal any anxiety attack. I don’t care what alley I, literally, found myself in, you were a call away. You taught me mud turns into dust and a plethora of other sayings. My favorite is, “I’ll be in the wind.”

Today I lost my Paw Paw, my namesake, my best friend and confidant. My upcoming weeks will be lonely. I tried my best never to miss a call no matter how annoying. I watched you be brave today as you crossed over the threshold. It was beautiful how you would’ve appreciated. We were all there at your side.

Today we lost Cleavon Meabon, Jr., leaving only two of us behind.

Today we honor the final resting place of the most famed Memphian, Tom Lee, Mt Carmel Ally. I have learned so much in the last few months. I’ve made a number of trips to the graveyard to sit, listen, and talk. Mt. Caramel is a gem worth preserving. We hold so many celebrations in hour or our hero, let’s make sure he rests in peace. It’s been an honor to serve you and the residents of Mt. Caramel Cemetery, Mr. Lee. Thank you. by @cleavisions
