War to Wardrobe - 2026

The central exhibition of War to Wardrobe is a collection of unique 3D-scanned and textured garments, representing five key material and design landmarks throughout design history, including Nomex, Kevlar and Gore-Tex. Alongside this, the Hall of Boots, seen in Image 1, holds rare prototype military boots that represent the extreme of design built around function, durability and performance.

With War to Wardrobe, I wanted to celebrate the unseen side of design and technological advancement. Much of the research conducted for this exhibition was taken from the Natick Soldier Systems Laboratory collection archive, courtesy of the Digital Commonwealth. The range and historical importance of these ultra-high-resolution original images and document scans felt too important to keep out of the spotlight.

I wanted to present this important context, which would normally be quickly summarised on a plaque or content board, out in the open and in full for visitors to explore. Gain an understanding of where the military sent and tested its gear, and see the original letters from majors to the researchers and designers responsible for creating it.

The idea behind War to Wardrobe was to create an interactive exhibition space where visitors could observe, interact with, and experience the migration of hyper-functional military design into everyday consumer products.

The workshop space is one of six areas within the exhibition, designed to engage directly with the public. Daily workshops invite visitors to explore the iconography of military fashion and its application in everyday life.

Through the creation of custom 3D-printed Airfix-style sets, based on 3D scans of rare and significant military and consumer uniforms, visitors can physically explore the similarities between military prototypes and contemporary clothing. This interactive and tactile approach allows the evolution of military design into consumer fashion to be understood through making and experimentation.

Omega military store visualisation a key part of my wider dissertation project (War to Wardrobe). Designed as a thankyou to the wonderful Omega Militaria who made much of my investigative exhibition into the relation and migration of military design in fashion possible , the omega Militaria store forms a key part of the war to wardrobe Exhibition allowing visitors to purchase high quality and well researched original military garments along side appreciating their history and fashion influence in the wider exhibition.

Many thanks to @omegamilitaria for the support in researching this exhibition , I look forward to releasing the wider exhibition in the coming days.

THX1138 Motion graphic
