Das französische „à mort“ ist Ankündigung des Schlimmsten: „Ich werde dich bis zum Tode bekämpfen.“ Es ist jedoch auch Ausdruck von Exzess und hyperbolischer Begeisterung. „Liebst Du mich?“ – „À mort, verdammt, ja, tödlich!“, hingestottert in rätselhaften Zuständen der Ekstase.
