ADAM QUARTET X MURMURS UNDER THE SKIN

On October 24th at 5:00 PM, the ADAM Quartet will give an exclusive concert at Atelier K84, surrounded by the work of Clementine van der Bent.

Clementine has previously taken stunning portraits of the ADAM Quartet, and in her solo exhibition In Murmurs under the Skin, she combines spontaneous observations with staged photography. This series explores the changing of the seasons and the tension between constant productivity and the need for rest.

Complementing these artworks, the ADAM Quartet will perform pieces including works by Dvořák and Shaw

Introducing Amsterdam-based photographer and filmmaker Clementine van der Bent (@clementinevanderbent) and her upcoming artist book Murmurs under the Skin.

Moving between documentary observation and staged photography, Clementine’s work explores the space between reality and fiction, and the dreams, desires and emotions that exist beneath what we can see.

In Murmurs under the Skin, she turns towards the changing seasons and the ways they affect our inner lives. Inspired by ancient nature traditions, symbolism and her own observations, the project reflects on our relationship with nature and the need to slow down, reflect and move with its rhythms rather than against them.

For the book, Clementine’s photography will be brought together with her own poetry, allowing image and text to form a layered exploration of nature, memory and our inner world.

The project can soon be seen in Clementine’s solo exhibition Murmurs under the Skin, opening October 9 at Atelier K84 (@atelierk84) in Amsterdam and running until November 12.

The Winter Chapter

For years, I dreaded winter. I feared the dark days approaching, the cold that froze my hands while cycling, and the scarce rays of sunlight that barely touched my face.
Until I decided to engage with winter in a different way.
Just as stags shed their antlers, plants die back above ground, and animals retreat into their burrows, I began to see winter as a necessary moment for reflection and integration. I started searching for a different rhythm.

With 'Murmurs under the skin', I explore how we can align with the rhythm of the seasons instead of fighting it. Because beneath the surface, deep under our skin, life is quietly gathering force for spring.

I give you the first glimpse of the autumn chapter of my series

The season of transformation of letting go has started. The first leaves are starting to turn yellow. It feels early this year. There is a sudden quiet in the air and although the days are still warm, the light is shifting. Colder days in the morning and golden by late afternoon. Spiderweb turn into delicate beaded necklaces, holding droplets of morning drew.

I wonder what will change inside me this season?

In februari organiseer ik voor de derde keer de verhalende fotografie-workshop in het familiehotel Clarezia, in Zwitserland.
De winter nodigt uit tot vertragen en reflecteren, en daarom heb ik speciaal een wintereditie gemaakt.
Met fotografie, stilte en de prachtige natuur onderzoek je wat er in je leeft en welk verhaal je wilt vertellen door middel van beelden.

De wintereditie van de verhalende fotografie cursus komt eraan!
Neem deze winter een week tijd voor jezelf en je fotografie. In de stilte van de Zwitserse bergen krijg je de ruimte om te vertragen, te kijken en te creëren. Tijdens de workshop werk je stap voor stap aan je eigen manier van kijken en ontwikkel je een persoonlijke fotoserie die jouw verhaal laat zien.

Met opdrachten, feedback en tijd voor je eigen proces ontdek je hoe licht, compositie en narratief samenkomen in verhalende fotografie. De serene winteromgeving biedt inspiratie en rust, perfect om je werk te verdiepen.

The dark months have begun. A time of long nights that naturally draw us inward. And even though the weeks before December often feel rushed with the holidays approaching, I try to carve out moments to be alone. To write, to pause, to look back at what has happened and what I’ve moved through.

I made these photos together with Els Vegter. For her performance Rockster, she wanted to explore the archetype of the witch not as a caricature but as a figure who does not fear the shadows. The witch as someone who follows intuition, works with transformation, and finds strength in the dark.

Last summer we worked together again on new images for her upcoming album, which will be released next year. I cannot wait to share these new photographs with you by @clementinevanderbent

Pictures for @_ernestomontenegro

Ernesto Montenegro is a trumpet player from Amsterdam with roots in the Canary Islands. The trumpet has always been my favorite instrument, especially in jazz, and it was such a joy to create these images together for his debut album. His music reflects meaningful memories of his hometown in Gran Canaria that fleeting moment at sunset when even the sand and rocks seem to turn shades of pink and gold.
