101 years of secrets . Timber - that was second hand when she was built in 1925, a neighbour said she was told it had come from an old hotel in the town. In the gold rush, Buninyong had approximately 20 hotels , some of them were tents of course but I wonder if she is right. The walls were not the standard width, she is a sad little house. The snail cupboard - ugh 🥴 …..yes it was a cupboard that was filled with snail shells, clearly the rats 🐀had been feasting on escargot . Graham would be appalled 🐌 Mick the demolition man managed to find me some treasures which he said he “tickled” out of the ground from under 1 of the 22 plum trees that had to be removed. Back in May 2025 we brought a sad old house ,she sits on a block of land once owned by Simon De Soza, the Gold King of Buninyong. Two architects suggested it would be cheaper to pull it down . She has sat in that street with grim determination for 100 years , she has a twin sister next door. How could we pull her down ? There are no lovely features that should be in a house of this age, she has rotten timbers, the stumps are had it . The aluminium cladding has to go. She doesn’t just need a makeover, she will be stripped back to her bare bones and rebuilt . We have engaged a builder @chriscvirnbuilding and we are excited to see her brought back to life.
