Exciting summer at the Clemons Lab! We were thrilled to welcome two amazing high school teachers, Keara Johnson and Lisa Klann, through USM's Research Experience for Teachers program. Our lab also engaged in valuable outreach activities, including getting CPR and First Aid certified. A big shoutout to our graduate students, Windfield Swetman and Sarah Crowsey, for their impressive presentations at the IDeA EPSoR conference, and congratulations to our undergraduate, Ashe Davis, for winning the poster contest! We're proud of our team and the work we're doing! by @clemonslab

Guys—Claire here… you know, @clemonslab’s right-hand woman. 👋

Of course, @tristan.clemons is away at a conference, which means I’ve been left at home with the very important task of… dusting his bedside table. 😂

Naturally, I had to remove every. single. book. to do the job properly. And as I stood there surrounded by this rather impressive stack, I realized: I don’t think there is a collection of books that describes Tristan more perfectly.

We’ve got books from science mentors, business mentors, US presidents, a book on successful marriages (👀 let’s give that one another read, honey—I’ll put it on top), a children’s book he was reading with the girls #GirlDad, an Ultimate Road Trip magazine… and, above all else, a book about his #1 hero: Will Smith. 😂

What really gets me is that there are bookmarks in most of these books. I genuinely don’t understand how. I can barely read one book at a time, let alone apparently have 12 books on the go simultaneously.

Anyway, if you’re still reading - the important message here is:

Dust behind the books.

You’re welcome. 🧹📚😂 by @clemonslab

Ashe Davis, a junior in the Honors College and School of Polymer Science and Engineering, has been named a Barry Goldwater Scholar, one of the nation’s most prestigious undergraduate honors in STEM.

Selected from approximately 5,000 applicants nationwide, Ashe is the 30th Southern Miss student to receive the award, which recognizes sophomores and juniors with exceptional promise in research and innovation. She was nominated by her research mentor, Dr. Tristan Clemons.

“Receiving the Goldwater Scholarship is genuinely something I never considered for myself,” Ashe said. “It serves as a lesson to myself that there are no limitations to what I can achieve.”

Congratulations, Ashe! #SMTTT #ReadyForLife taken in The University of Southern Mississippi by @clemonslab

We are so proud of @win_09 for landing a NASA/Mississippi Space Grant Consortium Graduate Research Fellowship for the 2025-2026 academic year! This will see him carry out education outreach in our community. A frequent volunteer at USM School of Polymer Science and Engineering field trips, Windfield is an excellent communicator of science. We cannot wait to see the impact you make, Winnie.
