Today was one of those days I know I will never forget.

I walked the ancient streets of Ephesus, where the Apostle Paul spent years teaching, where the early church grew despite tremendous opposition, and where many believers first received the words we now read in Ephesians and Revelation.

As I wandered the marble roads I couldn’t help but think about the thousands of people who walked these same streets 2000 years ago. The city was once one of the most powerful and influential places in the world. Today it lies in ruins.

It was a powerful reminder that everything we work so hard for to build on earth is temporary.

But God’s word endures!!

The Gospel that transformed lives in Ephesus is still transforming lives today — including mine!

One thought stayed with me throughout the day. In Revelation the church in Ephesus is praised for their faithfulness and perseverance, but he also said “you have left your first love.”

I found myself asking: Is my love for Christ as strong today as it was when I first believed? Am I still amazed by His grace? Am I living each day with eternity in mind?

As I reflected on the blessings and challenges God has and continues to carry our family through, my heart was filled with gratitude. Through every high and low He has been faithful!!

Standing among the ruins of Ephesus reminded me that the most important legacy we leave is not what we own, where we’ve travelled, or what we have accomplished. It is the faith we pass on to our children and grandchildren.

What a gift it was to stand in that historic place today and be reminded that while kingdoms rise and fall, our God remains forever.
