She had spent years learning how to hide behind silence,
behind expectations,
behind the version of herself the world found easier to accept but something inside her had begun to change. She looked away then slowly turned towards the gaze she had been avoiding, her own.
What began as vulnerability became confrontation and confrontation became defiance.
She stopped hiding, lifted her arms, and let everything she had carried fall away.
In the moment she understood that she was never meant to be contained.
She was not waiting to be chosen, understood, or set free.
She was already free.
