Most people know me from one chapter of my life or another.

Some know me from the music world. Some know me from weddings. Others know me from the hotel and hospitality work we create today.

For years, I worked as a music producer, helping turn songs into experiences for the listener. Today, through @capturedbycrown, I do something very similar for hotels, resorts, restaurants and brands—we use photography and film to help people feel a place before they ever arrive.

In music, every sound, pause, layer and creative decision helps shape an emotion.

In hospitality, every image, movement, detail and moment helps shape what a future guest imagines their experience will be.

At first, those felt like two completely different careers. The longer I’ve done this, the more I’ve realized they are connected by the same purpose: creating something people can feel and remember.

I’m a Grammy-winning producer, photographer, director, founder, husband and dad—and I’m still learning how all of those chapters fit together.

This video is a little bit about where I came from, what I do now and what we’re building with Captured by Crown.

Leesburg waited a long time for a property like this, and Hotel Burg feels like it was created with that history, care, and anticipation in mind.

Set in the heart of historic downtown Leesburg, with an 1885 home at its core, Hotel Burg brings together Virginia wine country character, hunt country heritage, elevated hospitality, and an unmistakable sense of place. From The Huntōn and The Diana Lounge to The Chase, the rooftop, and the beautifully layered interiors throughout the property, every detail feels connected to the story of Leesburg.

Our team had the privilege of capturing the full property — interiors, exteriors, lifestyle, food & beverage, and video — and it has been an honor to help document a place that already feels like part of Leesburg’s next chapter.

We are incredibly proud to see Hotel Burg featured in Forbes and grateful to have been part of bringing this story to life visually.

There's no greater joy in life than watching your kids grow up to love the Lord, and being able to be the one that baptizes them is such an honor. Both of our girls dedicated their lives to Christ officially and publicly in front of everybody at our home church, @gracecitytampa . There’s a version of this photo on every motivational page on the internet.

What nobody posts is the six weeks before it. The 4am. The meat locker. The guy running alone in the dark with no evidence it’s going anywhere.

The steps are the last twenty seconds of a montage nobody wants to sit through.

I’ve built four companies and I’ve never once seen it work differently. The part that actually moves anything is boring, unwitnessed, and repeated until it stops being a decision.
And here’s the part most people forget: Rocky loses that fight.
The whole movie was about whether he’d still be standing at the end. That was always the point.

Every year I do a Mommy + Me shoot for Crystal and KK, and man, this girl’s personality was all over this one.

Our living room has pretty much become a little portrait studio lately. We’ve been having friends and family over for shoots, so it was these two’s turn. I’m so used to shooting on location somewhere that it’s been fun getting back into a studio setup and just playing around.

I love doing this with them every year. KK is growing up way too fast, and I know we’re going to love looking back through these and seeing all the little things about her that change—and the things that definitely don’t.

And @crystalgayle0726 , I’m proud of you. You’ve become such an awesome mom, and I love watching you and KK together. Getting to be behind the camera for this stuff is sacred to me.

Going to start sharing more of these little sessions on here. Too many good photos sitting around that nobody ever sees.

One of my favorite things about food photography is that the plate is only part of the story.

At @crimsoncommons at @mottodcdowntown, I spent a lot of time looking for interesting light, angles, textures, and places within the space that could help the food feel like it actually belonged there. Sometimes the table in front of you isn’t the best place to shoot, so you move things around, find a better surface, use the room, and build the shot from there.

That’s what makes it fun for me.

You’re not just selling the food. You’re selling the feeling of sitting in that restaurant, ordering that drink, and being part of the experience.

Crystal,

Today I love you more than I did the day we met. I really mean that. Every year it actually grows, and I have stopped being surprised by it. I love you. I love us. I love looking back at where we came from (you know I have been doing a lot of that lately). I love that almost as much as I love thinking about where we are going, I’m constantly stoked for the future.

We always do the traditional gift thing and with this year, eleven being steel, it makes more sense to me than any previous year. Steel isn’t the pretty gift. It is the one that gets forged in fire!!! That’s exactly what we have been through and what we have turned into. It holds weight. It bends without breaking. That’s what I see when I look at you.

My favorite memory of you from this past year was seeing you come to life in Montana. Being out there reminded me of why we do this, why we work so hard, and what really matters. I just want to see you happy that way all the time. I want to build that life for you so you feel that free all the time.

Here is the part I do not say out loud enough. I get to dream because you make the dreaming survivable. That isnt easy, and I know exactly what it costs you.

I also know I am not always easy to be married to. I change the plan. I bring home more than I can carry and then often hand you what is left of it. You’ve never once made me feel guilty for that. I notice it. Even when I forget to say it, I notice it.

So here is what I want for year twelve. Not bigger. Just more of you. More of the ordinary hours that we keep giving away to everything else. I want to still be doing this at thirty years, arguing about something dumb, playing Dr. Mario every night, and still being two people who figured out how to build a life out of nothing dreams.

You are the best thing I have ever been part of.

For a long time, I thought I had to fix myself before God would accept me.

Romans 5:8 changed everything:

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus didn’t wait for me to become worthy. He met me in the darkness, loved me there, and changed me from the inside out.

I want to be more transparent about my walk with God and share more of what He has done in my life. In a way, this feels like giving my story back to Him.

You don’t have to clean yourself up before coming to Jesus.

Come to Him as you are.
