When I was 24 I remember waking up to the fact that smoking weed and drinking and avoiding responsibility would never make me happy. It was bad for me. It was making me unhealthy and miserable. That was in my heart. I was born knowing it. Social media didn’t tell me that. I didn’t need an influencer to tell me that. I just knew it.

Keep this in mind the next time you’re doom scrolling or just want to put the phone down. There’s nothing you can learn through that screen that you don’t already know in a fundamental way. There’s nothing there that’s gonna help you survive. Nothing there that’s gonna help you thrive that you don’t already know.

It’s not making you happy. So why continue to pursue it? Close your eyes. Get in touch with your heart, your gut. What is it telling you that you want? What you ACTUALLY want? Chances are it’s a lot different than what Instagram is telling you to want. So start pursuing that. Forget the other stuff, what society is telling you to want. And start living a happier, more peaceful, less anxious, and more fulfilling life.

So grateful to #centertheatercompany for the opportunity to play Juror #8 in this classic play, 12 Angry Jurors. As our final weekend approaches I’m reflecting on the first days of rehearsal when our wonderful director, Dana Marks, had us sit in chairs and strike poses of impatience, anger, curiosity, and satisfaction. It’s been so fun getting to know this amazing cast and I’m pleased to count myself among their ranks.
