Are you a rock climber?

Are you frustrated being at the gym, working on your project, while there are major conflicts happening in 🇵🇸🇨🇩🇸🇩?

Me too, which is why I decided to make my gym habit a revolutionary way of providing support to organizations all over the world providing life saving support.

With #ClimbingForFreedom I am bridging the worlds of indoor rock climbing with humanitarian aid by asking the rock climbing community to donate to this list of 10 vetted orgs.

@sudanese_american_physicians
@easterncongo
@thepcrf
@congofriends
@md2palestine
@palestinianyouthmovement
@savethechildren
@rescueorg
@refugees
@doctorswithoutborders

For every $10 donated, I film 1 route and dedicate to your donation!

Just screenshot your receipt and DM it to me, and boom, you too are now climbing for freedom.

Since starting on my personal page @uncleiso in the beginning of December, we’ve raised almost $500 and counting!

Even if you can’t donate, just liking these videos, sharing them and commenting helps a ton.

Together we can save lives, one send at a time!

Thanks for reading 🙏🏽

#ClimbingForFreedom is a fundraising campaign asking viewers to donate to a series of organizations providing humanitarian aid in Congo, Sudan, and Palestine. For every $10 donated, I film 1 route and dedicate to your donation. Together, we can help save lives and prove that with a bit of creativity and community support, climbing can be a strong form of activism.

Join me by donating to:

@palestinianyouthmovement
@doctorswithoutborders

PLEASE DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE ORG!

I want you to be in charge of where your money goes. I’m not looking to hold onto people’s money or be in charge of their donation. This is an anti-grifting model. Thank you for your understanding.

Peace & Love

CLIMBING FOR FREEDOM!

Thank you @zachary_mckinney for sponsoring these sends by donating to @doctorswithoutborders and @congofriends

Your support will help provide life saving aid and community development throughout the DRC.

The Democratice Republic of Congo (DRC) is home to one of the worlds largest mineral reserves where billions of dollars worth of Cobalt, Coltan, Copper and other precious metals are being exploited by Western nations and Chinese tech companies to make virtually every electronic device imaginable.

This has unfortunately led to the use of child slavery and life threatening working conditions and years of civil unrest.

Currently Rwanda backed rebels part of the M23 group have laid siege to the largest city in Eastern Congo displacing 100s of thousands of people, many of whom had already been displaced from other regions within Congo or were fleeing the war in Sudan.

This campaign helps bring awareness and mutual aid to Congo, Sudan and Palestine by using climbing content as a messenger.

If you’d like to sponsor the next send, click the link in the bio.

For every $10 you donate to one of the orgs I will send 1 boulder and dedicate it to your donation. Just DM a screenshot of your receipt. by @climbing4freedom

It is not a rare experience for climbers of color to walk into a gym and feel like they’re one in a handful of POC there.

The sport has definitely gotten WAY more diverse over the years, but it still has a long way to go.

Of the 94 people who competed in the Olympic qualifier series between Men’s and Women’s Boulder & Lead, 64% were from a European country. Of the 24 that went on to compete 75% were European.

There was only 1 African competitor at the qualifiers, and I’ll give you a guess of where she was from and what race she was…

That’s why I was so stoked to see @mollyts123 qualify for the Olympic Games being the first black woman to compete in climbing, but was disappointed that it wasn’t more strongly highlighted in the climbing community. She made history and paved the way for so many young black climbers, especially young black girls, to have an opportunity to excel in this sport. She deserves her flowers.

It also astonishes me that the @olympics won’t uphold the same standard they set against apartheid. As long as Israel continues to occupy Palestine and uphold their apartheid, they should not be allowed to compete. Major pressures like this are what helped end the apartheid in South Africa and it is time to hold that same energy towards Israel.

I do believe there is ample space and opportunity for climbers of color to thrive in this sport. I’m thankful that there are so many organizations around the nation dedicated to promoting diversity and introducing POC to the community.

I’ve had a wonderful time and a very warm experience at every gym I’ve been to. The people are amazing, but I do think that the lack of representation is playing a massive role in people avoiding the sport and feeling like it isn’t a safe space.

I want people to know that while climbing DOES have a diversity shortage, it is 100% a safe space for everyone and you should check it out! It’s a wonderful way to stay fit and challenge both your mind and body at once, and on top of that it’s FUN!

I hope to see more major platforms do more to push for diversity in the space and call it out when it’s being stifled.

“How do we give [people] the ability, the tools, the skill sets to get the jobs — even the ability to have a job.”

After our session, @vicunaaa_ and I talked about community care, the immigrant experience, and applying our climbing philosophies to our lives.

Thanks again Val for climbing with me and sharing such powerful stories and ideas. Check out the whole interview on YouTube.

CLIMBING FOR FREEDOM: SEND 48

Ungraded Comp Sponsored by @_akanak

For @sudanese_american_physicians

Thank you AJ for donating $10 to SAPA and aiding their mission to bring medical aid to the people of Sudan.

Sudan is currently suffering the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, exasperated by civil war and famine.

More than 7 million people are internally displaced with millions more fleeing to neighboring countries.

Sudan is the 3rd largest country in Africa, following Algeria and Congo respectively, yet is struggling the most to survive.

Please join AJ by sponsoring a send and donate to SAPA.
