En décembre 2024, au lendemain de la chute du régime d’Assad, le cinéaste belgo-syrien Tawfik Sabouni retourne à Saidnaya, la prison où il a été détenu. Avec quatre autres survivants, il revisite les lieux de leur captivité et reconstitue les gestes du quotidien, les rituels et les stratégies de survie.

Comment témoigner de ce que les mots ne peuvent pas raconter ? Dans 𝗟’𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗥𝗘 𝗖𝗢̂𝗧𝗘́ 𝗗𝗨 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗜𝗟, la mise en scène devient un geste de mémoire et de réappropriation. Un film puissant qui redonne une présence aux voix que la violence a tenté d’effacer, et rend hommage à celles et ceux dont les proches sont toujours sans nouvelles.

We’re thrilled to share that @pietervaneecke has been selected as a 2026-27 Redford Center Fellow for Environmental Film for his upcoming film The Forecasters !

On air and under pressure, weather forecasters worldwide become reluctant harbingers of doom as extreme weather intensifies on each continent. They are messengers on the front line of a changing atmosphere. For them, climate change is not a future scenario — it is what they read in the data every single day. And yet, most of the time, they have only two minutes on air. Faced with censorship, denial and emotional tolls, they take different paths to amplify their message, they have to reinvent their jobs to make audiences anticipate reality. But how to tell the truth when truth becomes unwelcome? This is the story of weather forecasters stepping up to confront the obstacles and restrictions imposed on them every day. Because, as one of them says: we can only act when we know.

Le film 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙊𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙍 𝙎𝙄𝘿𝙀 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙎𝙐𝙉, réalisé par Tawfik Sabouni, est en lice pour représenter la Syrie aux Oscars 2027.

Une sélection historique qui marque la première participation de la Syrie aux Oscars depuis la chute du régime Assad en décembre 2024.

C’est également la première sélection de la nouvelle commission syrienne, récemment accréditée par l’Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

Une étape symbolique pour le cinéma syrien, qui ouvre un nouveau chapitre de sa présence sur la scène internationale.

Le film explore l’expérience de l’emprisonnement à Saidnaya, l’un des principaux lieux de détention de l’histoire récente de la Syrie, et interroge la mémoire collective liée à des décennies de régime.

De 23-jarige Samim, een toegewijde strijder van de Taliban-ideologie die zijn lot al sinds zijn geboorte bepaalt, balanceert tussen de verleidelijke beloften van martelaarschap en de alledaagse werkelijkheid van zijn leven als echtgenoot en boer.
