POSTS STORIES REELS

My grandad had nicknames for each of his grandchildren. Mine was Parker - he was a big Thunderbirds fan.

But my grandparents gave us more than nicknames. I’m sure the family would agree that one of their greatest gifts to us is music.

My Grandparents’ Soundtrack is my nod to them: 30 minutes of mostly ska, featuring records on Island, Treasure Isle, Blue Beat and Doctor Bird.

Curated by yours truly, Mister C (Croydon FM), and recorded directly from vintage vinyl, with a little crackle and plenty of character.

The music they love. The roots I carry.

Have a listen, share it with your people 🎶 (Link in bio)

Before HQ became HQ. (2017) best believe it’s been a mad journey. #faithoverfear🙏 by @clivecampbell_

One from the collection for Derrick Harriott today.

Derrick Harriott - What Can I Do (The Wedding), Island Rec. 1964.

Derrick passed yesterday, aged 87. Singer, songwriter and producer, with a career spanning ska, rocksteady and reggae.

For this Sunday vinyl, I’ll let the record do the talking. 🎶 by @clivecampbell_

From being denied space, to building one where others can find their voice and feel at home.

Still building.

One of those records where you suddenly think… hold on, I know this. 👀

Nina Simone – Do What You Gotta Do, 1968.

Fast forward to 2016 and a certain ‘Famous’ record gave it another life.

Came out to take a picture, ended up defending the Gemini community 😂

Big love to @stush_uk for passing through CFM HQ. The actual interview is on Mixcloud - search Croydon FM by @clivecampbell_

Amy Winehouse was my introduction to this song.

Then I found The Heptones’ version in the collection.

I call it “the original” in the video, turns out Ruby & the Romantics beat them to it back in 1962. 😅

One song, a few generations, and plenty of history in between.

Building @croydonfm over the years has shown me how much good music and conversation can bring people together. I wanted to make more room for that, somewhere to meet beyond the studio, have a proper conversation and feel at ease being yourself.

Truth Bar LDN (@truthbarldn) grew out of that idea. We’re still building, and I’d love more people to come through and be part of it.

Croydon gets its fair share of criticism, but there are people here putting care into places worth spending time in. Hopefully, you’ll feel that when you step inside ours.

Come for a drink and some music. See where the evening takes you. by @clivecampbell_

I’ll be joining the heritage panel and community conversation at With Love From South on 29th October at @thevillagetable_uk

Creativity runs deep in this family.

Back in June, singer-songwriter Tora-i passed through the CFM studios. Earlier today, her mum Lizzy Lambie from Croydon CEZ (@croydoncd_) took her turn behind the mic to talk about With Love From South, celebrating Croydon’s Black music communities later this month.

Keeping it in the family, quite literally. by @clivecampbell_

Some conversations deserve a follow up. This one’s getting a weekly slot.

@djtiiny joins the CFM family. Keep an eye on @croydonfm for the full announcement. 📡📡 by @clivecampbell_

A follow from @greensleevesrecords felt like a good enough excuse to pull this one out. 😅

Johnny Osbourne – Fally Ranking, 1980.

Produced by Prince Jammy, backed by the Roots Radics.

Johnny Osbourne has always been one of my favourites ‘Jah Promise’ and ‘We Need Love’ are two that still get me every time.

Funny enough, as a kid I remember always being drawn to the Greensleeves artwork, before I even really understood what a record label was.

Some things stick. 🎶 by @clivecampbell_
