My Ten Before the End is a mixture of books I keep letting slip down my TBR… but no longer! I have three months, a trip to Berlin and a TBR that will fight me all the way.

Social media seems to make us obsessed with numbers.
Every book must be a bestseller and every post must go viral, or it feels like a failure. But life isn’t like that.
Just one reader telling me they loved Blood of the Son makes years of hard work worth it. 🥂

Blood of the Son is available on Amazon and included with Kindle Unlimited.
PS @deluxemoustache are amazing!

There’s a particular mix of terror and excitement when you read a review of a world you spent years building.
@carina_inkdrinker gave Blood of the Son 4.5 stars and picked out Carl, the lore and, to my delight, the maps.
Thank you, Carina, for reading so thoughtfully. I’m especially pleased the maps got a mention!

I went into Waterstones Southampton for a quiet browse and somehow ended up doing a little unpaid merchandising.
I may have got carried away with the Mark Lawrence section. 😅

Retiring at 54 wasn’t the plan. I thought I’d be brilliant at doing nothing. Turns out I’m hopeless at it.
My days are filled with writing, learning French, exploring the world and spending time with friends and family. It all feels like time well spent.

One canal trip, three books finished and one just started. 📚

🎧 Tokyo Express — a clever railway mystery. 4 stars
🎧 Age of Myth — great characters and plenty to like, but the story never quite picked up enough for me. 3.5 stars
📖 The Lost Company — gritty fantasy that kept me turning pages. 4 stars
🎧 A Haunt for Jackals — only 20% in, so the verdict is still to come.

The canal trip is over, but the reading continues. What’s keeping you company at the moment?

Once the kettle’s boiled, there’s nothing to hurry for. Just a cup of tea, a good book and the world drifting past. I don’t want this holiday to end!

Canal boating is peaceful, relaxing and wonderfully slow… until the route takes you through 2,800 metres of darkness.

Just the tunnel lights, the steady hum of the engine, the sound of dripping water and a very long way to the other side. Would you brave it?
