“home of the cherry blossoms”, acrylic on canvas 🍒🌸

this piece is about the conflict that ensues between the flesh and the spirit after choosing to follow Christ, and how God gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us as we follow Him.
cherry blossoms typically are symbolic of rebirth and new life. i wanted to depict the life of the Spirit at work inside of us as new believers of Christ. i also wanted to emulate the cold, hard flesh and it’s contrast against the gentle, soft Spirit.
Jesus entered the physical flesh so that He could take on all that is physical. He endured the physical, fleshly nature of sin for us that we may be redeemed and rewarded what was HIS reward: the freedom, the soft and gentle and sweet sweet Spirit. this painting reveals how Christ took the physical nature of our flesh to grant us the Spiritual nature of Himself. and complete, perfected forgiveness that restores us to the God Almighty. Praise the Lord and Savior Jesus!

my heart is a home
to a garden
full of cherry blossoms.

pink and soft,
puddling from within the corners of my soul
like the milky froth
that settles atop a cup of cold, black coffee.

it pours out
from the deep, empty pit of dark soul,
into a sweet lagoon of warm clouds

it settles like honey,
sweet to the taste,
my soul in thirst for more after every sip.

my heart is a home
to a thousand little blossoms
in the midst of a cold, dark season
that steals light from the day

“a temple unto Thee”, acrylic on canvas

for this painting i wanted to talk about my struggle with food and body image in light of my faith. so i created an image that has two interpretations: God crafting pottery, and an image of a person body checking. rather than using my body as a weapon for control, this piece highlights the need to recognize our bodies as crafted vessels formed by the Glorious Creator of the universe. our bodies are miraculous, living temples to which our worship can be attributed to God. and when we honor our bodies this way, He may be glorified!

“the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of His being.” ~hebrews 1:3 🌞

the suffering and humble servitude of Christ reflects a different understanding of God’s magnificence. He is so glorious that He is, apart from Christ, too far from us: unreachable. however, He assumed the lowest, poorest, most humble role, died a criminal’s death in the face of mockery and hatred (for those who killed Him- people like you and me)- revealing His utmost plan of abundant love and His complete righteousness. i think it’s incredible to think God still created the earth and people, out of His abundance of love, even with the knowledge they would betray Him. yet He knew what was to come- and He did it anyway. and through that betrayal, He was so full of love that He knew He could overflow in even greater abundance and grace (because He is Oh SO full of love and purity!!) by sending His Son. He could not leave our sin ignored- but He also didn’t leave us in our sin. how the love of the Father and His perfect justice is seen in the glorious and selfless servitude of the Son, Whom He is One with. and through His Holy Spirit, empowers us to come near to Christ and call on His Name. praise the glorious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen!!

🦋”the new covenant”🕊️☁️

“who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” ~2 corinthians 3:6

“and by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time.” ~hebrews 10:10

this piece is about how we are no longer bound to our own effort/ the religious law, but to grace. i’ve wrestled with self righteousness as a Christian and trying to be perfect for God for a while- but i’ve been rediscovering how i am not bound to these religious rules anymore. rather, the blood of Jesus has secured my salvation once and for all time!!
this doesn’t mean that i am not commanded to obey the moral law. but because of Christ and His grace, i’ve been learning that the Law is meant to keep us safe and pure, that we may abound in hope and joy. when i do that which God calls me to, not by my own strength but by that of the Holy Spirit i have received through Christ, i have joy!! obeying God is a beautiful form of worship i get to enjoy bc of what Christ has accomplished for me. before, when i was a slave to sin, i was so lost and afraid. i still struggle, but i’m beginning to discover that true freedom is found in Christ and gives us hope and life, rather than death. praise the Lord, Who loves us enough to offer us salvation, if we so choose.
