Wow. @beiva.winery Roero Reala and Sprunet nebbiolos are superb! Sprunet - light, fresh, strawberry, roses; Reala - single MGA that would give any Barbaresco and Barolo a run for their money, serious but still fresh and perfumed. So hard to choose between the two! Bravo Lorenzo and Alberto!!

We may not be in the hills of Roero, but we like our little part of the world too 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾🚜🐄 And even better to finish the day with @beiva.winery Roero!

Two amazing wines last night…. @domaine_alexandre_parigot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Vergelesses and @aeonwines Light Dry Red. Both wines were super perfumed - the Parigot with red fruits, violets, iris. Up there with the best burgs we’ve had recently. The Aeon was such a delight and modern interpretation of Hunter Shiraz/Pinot blends. Lovely texture and mouthfeel.

The first of @beiva.winery Roero nebbiolos - wow! Super fragrant with alpine strawberries, roses and a freshness that makes it very hard to put down, but still with the characteristic Roero fine tannin. Super cool wine, Lorenzo & Alberto!

Getting through the new wines - and @rabelvini Soffio vino Bianco (Arneis) is cracking! Intense pear, white flowers and lovely peach skin, developing weight with time open. A little waxy and creamy, but great minerality and freshness. Congrats Marco, Paolo, Francesco and Michele!

@weingutabraham Weissburgunder Vom Muschelkalk 2024. Amazing Pinot Blanc - wet stones and mineral with lots of lemon and lime, plenty of weight from barrel and time on lees. Texture in spades. Love this wine! Congrats Marlies and Martin!

FINALLY! Our first import arrived! It feels like we’ve been waiting for an eternity. Our first three Italian producers - @beiva.winery @weingutabraham @rabelvini - all in Australia for the first time!

@beiva.winery cultivates 5 hectares of vineyards – Nebbiolo, Arneis, and Barbera, and are committed to ethical and sustainable viticulture, striving to minimize environmental impact. Beiva wines are fresh, drinkable, and complex. Their wines remain true to the variety, the vineyard, and the land from which they come. They avoid unnecessary interventions: short macerations, no additives, no filtration or fining, aging in old barrels, and minimal use of sulphites. Simplicity is their choice, but it requires rigorous work, precision, attention, and cleanliness at every stage.

@weingutabraham farm six small vineyards totalling 10 hectares and focus on traditional varieties for the region. Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Gewurtztraminer for the whites, and Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) and the unique local variety Vernatsch (Schiava) for the reds. Weingut Abraham’s wines are at the forefront of the rejuvenation of Alto Adige. They are fresh, elegant and a true representation of their family history in the region, and the terroir in which they farm their vines.

@rabelvini Rabel started from a passion of wine shared by 4 friends - Paolo and Francesco Trucco, Michele Gai and Marco Nicola. Nebbiolo and Arneis are the focus of Rabel - the Acustico Nebbiolo grown in the terroirs of the Northern Roero expresses lightness, tension and vertical elegance, which is in stark contrast to the power and roundness of the Langhe; and the Soffio Arneis with its evolution in amphora on fine lees to give time to allow development of mineral tension and saline characters.

So it’s been a while since the last post - there’s been plenty of great wines in between trips to the farm. Here’s 3 memorable wines - Verget from the Macon which was fresh but full bodied, great stone fruits and rocky minerality; Chateau du Cedre Improbable which was an amazing infusion style Malbec that looked almost like a rose but had intensity of flavour but with lovely fine tannin and freshness; and old vine Schoffit Chasselas which was rich and textural. All great wines from France! Stay tuned for some big news in the next week or so - imports from Northern Italy have landed!! by @closandcantina

A very good ‘orange’ wine from Orange! Pinot Gris with a small time on skins. @jessopwines are making some of the best wines from Orange in NSW. Clean, aromatic and texturally really interesting. Great job Chris & Matt!

After struggling to get in to the farm after steady rain, we got some cattle work done, and then back to home just in time for one of our favourite Valtellina producers…Arpepe! Their Rosso Di Valtellina is not only a great introduction to high altitude Nebbiolo, but a great wine in its own right. Amazing juice! by @closandcantina

A bit of an unfair battle tonight with Beef Bourg - @carolinecolinmorey Santenay 1er cru La Comme was amazing. Beautiful red fruits, fresh, savoury and long. Couldn’t ask too much more for burgundy and Pinot Noir!

A weekend of interesting wines. The wine of the weekend was Bulman Gary’s vineyard Grenache 2024. Amazing light and ethereal, with lovely fine tannin. Super bright and floral! by @closandcantina
