Stewardship is our guiding principle. It cannot be encompassed in one single action; it is reflected in how we care for our land, how we manage our water, how we operate, and how we plan for the future. Every decision is rooted in intention.

Our goal doesn't end with producing great wines today; it guides us forward, ensuring the land thrives for generations to come.

Three figures. One enduring idea of what wine can be.

When our founder, John Goelet, acquired a 1624 bronze sculpture of the Three Graces by Georg Petel, he saw in them something that transcended their mythological origins. Harbringers of beauty, grace, and mirth, the graces embodied what wine meant to him. So, when he founded Clos du Val in 1972, he chose them as our icon—three muses to guide the spirit in every bottle to come.

More than 50 years later, The Graces continue to guide us and evolve alongside us. They appear across our wines, works of art rather than a logo. And now, on Table Wine, they're unwound, relaxed, in motion, and ready to gather.

A symbol rooted in our past, the Three Graces carry forward an idea of wine that is still very much our own. by @closduval

Our 2026 fruit has all come in at Hirondelle Estate. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible team for working with such care, patience, and determination through an unprecedented harvest season.

"Our 2026 wines look very promising! Most of the whites have finished fermenting and are starting to show beautiful complexity and texture with citrus, tropical, and stone fruit aromatics. The reds have great color this year with fine tannins and elegant structure." - Carmel Greenberg, winemaker.

There's plenty of work ahead, but we're all thrilled to have our fruit home and beginning its next chapter in the cellar. The best is yet to come. by @closduval

In 2018, Olav Goelet asked founding winemaker Bernard Portet if there was a wine he regretted not crafting during his time at the helm of Clos du Val. His response was a Grand Vin: a blend that captured the essence of the estate, reflected through the vintage.

Our Grand Vin, Yettalil is the heart of Clos du Val made tangible. Through the skilled lens of Winemaker Carmel Greenberg, each vintage brings together the same grapes in varying composition: a cohesive expression of Hirondelle Estate that tells a story of continuity and change. An estate-driven wine grounded in philosophy, never defined by a single varietal.

Shaped by our terroir in the Napa Valley, our wines unveil a sense of place rooted in the Stags Leap District. Under Carmel’s direction, Yettalil is the culmination of a million moments in the vineyard and cellar, all revealed when you pull the cork.

We’re honored to share the 2023 vintage with you.

The heart of summer is slipping away, but we're holding onto its spirit as long as we can. That means keeping our wines chilled and ready, eating peaches over the sink, and making sure our grill is prepped and ready to fire.

What are you opening this weekend?

We believe in the blended expression.

Much like our wines, our estate is defined by the sum of its parts. Seven distinct vineyard districts, each with its own personality, history, and purpose, come together to create the elegant, balanced wines that have defined Clos du Val for more than fifty years.

Thoughtfully named, each district tells a chapter of our story.

Scroll to learn more.

In 1972, Bernard Portet discovered Hirondelle Estate with one arm resting out the window of his car. As he drove south from northern Napa, he felt the temperature suddenly drop as he entered a small, sheltered pocket of the valley. He realized he’d found something special.

After two years searching the world’s great wine regions, this was his eureka moment. Today, that site is known as the Eureka District and is home to some of our Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Once a walnut orchard, the Hartley District takes its name from the historic Hartley walnut trees that still line the drive, watched over each season by a chorus of crows.

Today, this block is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

Once a cattle ranch, the Pasture District reflects the landscape that existed before vines took root. This image was taken during Bernard’s pioneerng scouting mission.

Today, it’s our most diverse vineyard block, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and a small parcel of Carmenère.

Planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon, the Palisades District takes its name from the dramatic rock formations of the Vaca Mountains that watch over Hirondelle Estate. These sunlit chiffs radiate warmth onto the vineyard below, creating a warmer microclimate that helps shape the character of our fruit.

Innovation has always been part of our story. Named for the pioneering spirit of founders John and Henrietta Goelet and Bernard Portet, the Renegade District was replanted in 2005 with a forward-thinking row orientation and trellis system designed to adapt to a changing climate an uncommon decision at the time.

Today, the district is planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon and continues to produce some of our most exceptional fruit.

We are honored to share that our 2025 Clos du Val Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley, was recently awarded 95 points by Lisa Perrotti-Brown.

She noted that the wine "waltzes out with scents of ripe pears, juicy white peaches, and cedar chest, followed by nuances of honeysuckle and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate delivers a silky texture and refreshing line to support the tightly wound orchard fruit flavors, finishing long.” - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 95 points.

We'd like to think this photograph captures the feeling of that first sip.
