The Close-Act company creates spectacular theatre for outdoor spaces. It creates a world in which the interactivity with the people is the key.

PLAYLIST OCTOBER

Close-Act is renowned for interactive street theatre. Our unique form of theatre is performed in, between, and above the public. “Let us move, draw, and carry you into the world we create.” But what does interactive theatre mean? It is most comparable to reality, where the most important element is the emotional rush you experience.
In these performances, you can feel a wide range of emotions, such as love, seduction, fear, and compassion. It is the ultimate way to intensify your perception of the performance. The story, however unreal it may seem, becomes reality. You are part of it, just like everyone around you. by @closeact

Bluebirds in Breckenridge, Colorado.
Walking through the mountains, these longnecks towered above the audience.
There’s no way you could miss them when they started marching through the crowd.

A pretty special place for the Bluebirds to make an appearance.

Huge, glowing creatures on stilts, moving through the streets of Bras Basah.Bugis like they had just wandered in from another world.

This is Birdmen by Close-Act Theatre, a street performance from the Netherlands making its Southeast Asian debut at the Singapore Night Festival. Instead of staying on a stage, these mysterious creatures roam through the streets, towering above the crowd, moving, turning and occasionally getting a little too close for comfort. 😂

For a few minutes, the familiar streets of Singapore felt completely different. People stopped, cameras came out, children stared, and even the adults couldn’t help but follow them.

A little strange, a little surreal, and definitely one of the most memorable sights I’ve photographed at this year’s Singapore Night Festival.

What a way to kick off Singapore Night Festival! ✨🦅

We’re so happy to have Birdmen by Close-Act Theatre @closeact as part of our opening weekend, bringing joy, awe and wonder to Singapore. This is what SNF is all about. 💫

But behind this futuristic roving experience is a lottt of preparation and hard work. These incredible “birds” are performers walking on stilts, and putting together a 45-minute show like this takes serious skill, stamina and teamwork, especially in Singapore’s humidity and amidst the crowds!

Huge kudos to the team, and a big WELCOME TO SINGAPORE! 🇸🇬

We also caught up with the performers behind the “birds” to find out more about what goes into preparing for this spectacular experience. 👀

AVENIR at the 25th International Adana Theater Festival (TR)
The huge crow created an atmosphere that was both powerful and deeply moving.
Since 2011, this was the fifth time we had the honour of performing in Adana for this amazing audience.
The journey continues, as Avenir will travel on to meet new audiences, with upcoming performances including Antalya and beyond.
