History of grain sacks
The first use of fabric sacks can be traced to the early 19th century, when small farmers strapped a sack to the back of a horse to take their grain for milling. The bags of the time were handwoven at home from rough cloth usually linen made of hand-spun yarn, sometimes stamped with the name of the farmer -these amazing patterns and colored sacks from Portugal have been repurposed into pillows -bolsters -fill with removable down inserts and hidden zippers .One of a kind by @clothandgoods

Our Barn is open for holiday shopping- past collections at 25%off. We also have some beautiful new artisan made products . Come have a lovely shopping experience and have 1st dibs. A pile of handwoven vintage grain sacks made into fun oversized pillows from Portugal. I’ve been collecting sacks for many years from other countries but I’ve never seen ones like these - the workmanship -patterns - and colors that go into a simple storage textile for grains are just magnificent ! In the Barn by @clothandgoods
