Ten years later, we are finally returning to the home of this work! Having encountered the Eiffel Tower, the snowy mountains of Annecy, and the minus six degrees Celsius of Stockholm, traveling across borders and experiencing the icy weather of foreign lands, and being embraced by generous applause, what remains most unforgettable is the nourishment and warmth of this land, Taiwan. A decade has passed. At the milestone of its 10th anniversary, 13 Tongues returns to the birthplace of its inspiration—Bangka, Taipei. We bring the untamed vibrancy of the streets and the explosive spark of dance right back to where it all began. Where we set out, where we shall blossom again. Blue Hour unfolds in the quiet moments before dawn, when sleep feels close but never arrives. Six dancers hover near stillness, their bodies stirred by subtle tremors. As the cello music of British composer John Tavener emerges, deep blue light slowly fades. Time seems to slow, revealing feelings of restlessness, solitude, and thoughts that refuse to settle, described as “the most evocative expression of a mind lost in its own depths.“ Beckoning shifts to the open energy of a temple courtyard. Gongs and drums echo through parade rhythms, Ba Jia Jiang elements, and fragments of street life. The dancers move between strength and playfulness, precision and release, creating a scene that feels both familiar and slightly uncanny.
