Had a great few days off on the @sugarland tour stop in Rapid City.

@whostoyhouse is the cutest little toy shop and @altfuelcoffee’s chai was so delish that I popped in there multiple times.
Super nice people all over the town.

And thanks to the @doubletree Rapid City for the hospitality shown our folks.

Onward we go to @4bearscasino

Green Bay: listen, I’m a Bears fan but when offered the opportunity to go see a Packers practice and walk around an EMPTY Lambeau Field- you do it.

2 days off and the family flew out to see me. Mall of America- here we come.

From tour life to home life.

Massive shout out to my wife @julie.a.fulton for helping my kid’s Halloween wish come true.

@summittsfunfacts wanted to convert his 4 wheeler into a tank so he could ride it trick or treating.
He’s going as a Halo fighter so this seemed perfect.
Two years ago she made every inch of his costume- Venus fly trap - and she may have outdone herself this year.

Julie and Summitt have been working so hard on this and it is looking amazing!

I love that since she’s retired she’s been able to be home to do projects like this. It really shows Summitt what one can do with an imagination and some time.
Thanks for holding it down babe.
I’ll be back soon and I’ll paint any wall you want me to.

Many years ago, I met Dolly Parton. She was coming in for rehearsal prior to her surprise Newport Folk Festival set.
.
Just moments before her arrival, I was told that I would be running a teleprompter for the rehearsal.
Now- every teleprompter software is different and I’d only ever ran one a year earlier so I was a little nervous.

Dolly walks in, (literal) sunshine fills the room and the rehearsal starts.

I immediately mess up. The lyrics on the screen are wrong and I’m being given on the spot corrections with no understanding of how to make these corrections.

A couple other artists in the room are giving me side eye and looking embarrassed while I start sweating and feeling jitters in my stomach.

Another artist goes up to Dolly and apologies for the unprepared crew member (that was me) and now I’m full on dripping with sweat and feeling really bad that I’m letting Dolly Parton down.

Dolly stops the music, looks back at me and asks my name. I had to think for a second before sputtering it out. She smiles and says “Darlin, I feel like you’re doing your best and maybe we just need to give you a minute to figure that machine out. Whatcha think?”

I nodded

She says, “take your time and when you are ready, you tell me. But only when you are ready. “

I spend 5 minutes learning how to make edits and corrections and color code words and then I go up to Dolly and say, “Excuse me, ma’am…I’m ready now”

She smiled and said “I knew you wouldn’t need but just a few minutes. Let’s do this Kellye, shall we?”

I was instantly put at ease by her compassion and charm.
The rest of rehearsal went well and the Newport Folk Festival set ended up being an epic surprise and one that I don’t think anyone who was there will ever forget.

At the end of rehearsal though, Dolly asked if anyone wanted to take a photo with her. I did. I really did. But i didn’t need a photo with her to remind me of that day because I was never going to forget how she treated me and everyone she met. So I passed on the photo. #smallregret

I wish the world was as kind and compassionate as Dolly Parton.
