I walked so many amazing dogs @animals_clt in 2025 - many of whom found forever families, some of whom are still currently in foster or are still at the shelter and a few who unfortunately had to be euthanized due to various circumstances. All of these dogs are so unique with so much love to give. 12/15 update: ADOPTED!

Meet Sophie (#A1232466), my current @animals_clt foster!

I found Sophie running out of the woods at the bottom of my street on Friday night (last photo is when I found and leashed her). I figured she was someone’s dog and after getting her microchip scanned, she could easily be reunited with her family! Well, I was wrong. Sophie has had a very traumatic last month of her life.

She was adopted from animal care and control by a man in Sept 2024, then at the end of this last month, she and her adopted sister were found at his house and he was deceased. They were on hold at the shelter from Nov 25-Dec 8 2025 to see if family would get them but no one did. She went on a staycation with someone and she got loose, and that’s when I found her. So in the last month she lost her previous owner, her adopted dog sister and her home.

Despite all of this, she decided to trust me and has been such a wonderful houseguest. She will need a patient, kind and committed adopter. I know that she will open up and thrive once she finds her family!

What I know about Sophie thus far:

🐾 sweet and affectionate girl who loves her humans
🐾 timid at first and slow to warm up, but a huge love bug after a little time
🐾 smart and treat-motivated girl, knows “sit”
🐾 rides well in a car 🚗 hops right up in the back seat
🐾 has coexisted nicely in a home with a cat and another dog in her past
🐾 sleeps soundly in her crate at night (in the same room as her human)
🐾 very attached to her humans right now and may initially cry or bark when left alone
🐾 she would do well in a home with a confident dog sibling to make her feel safe!
🐾 needs to shed a few lbs to maintain a healthy weight
