Believe it or not, AJ asked for this. 😌

Here is a special inside look into the dress rehearsal for Svedsen's Romeo and Juliet Fantasia for Orchestra with our principal bassoonist, @aj.bassoon.

Yes, every rehearsal goes EXACTLY like this.

Where music, art, and literature meet. 🎶🎨

UNCC Illustration major Tori Haynes @_hillbilly_cowboy (and one of our fall interns!) created these wonderfully whimsical illustrations to represent the mythical tales of One Thousand and One Nights told in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.

The artistry doesn't stop here — join us at Belk Theater this Friday and Saturday night to immerse yourself in the incomparable human-made artform of orchestral music.

Putting the finishing touches on the clarinet cadenza from the second movement of Scheherazade. 🎶

Fun fact: this movement is “The Tale of the Kalendar Prince,” and Rimsky-Korsakov wrote the cadenza to sound improvised, like a storyteller making it up on the spot. There’s no strict pulse, just a few plucked chords from the strings underneath, so no two clarinetists ever play it the same way. It also shows up on many audition lists, which means I’ve been living with these few bars for most of my life.

Come hear it live this weekend with the @cltsymphony . Friday and Saturday, October 9 and 10, 7:30 PM at Belk Theater, with @kwameryan conducting and Orion Weiss playing Barber’s Piano Concerto on the first half.
